y. ?. u. To the teachers, students and friends of the Bethany High School: The idea to come here began some years ago when I learned about Y. F. U. (youth for understanding) and the Foreign Exchange Program of the young people across the world-the decision was easy, because I wanted to come to America, not as a tourist, but to learn the way of life and the customs of the people of this great country. I want to share this knowledge with the people in my home. I left my country January 12, 1978 with 180 excited Y. F. U. students and stayed for 6 months with an America family. Since I first arrived at the airport I have been happy and I have enjoyed my family and friends here in Bethany. The excitement of the senior trip, Prom and Graduation all were new for me. I was surprised when I saw Bethany with the farms as pretty small town, without skyscrapers. I was really happy here and with its friendly people. I think Y.F.U. is a great organization that brings you the opportunity to know another country’s and to better under- stand and communicate between the people of other lands. If someone were to ask what I liked most about Illinois I would say the friendly people and the snow. Now I only have left a few days in America and I can say: “This time has been really wonderful and always will remain as one of my most important and exciting memories of my life. For me, Bethany, American people and Y. F. U. are greats. With Love, Gisselle 19
