BETHANY noo i BETHANY t IN MEMORIUM, we, the staff of the 1971-1972 Reverie, do dedicate this 1971 Re- verie to Sharon Young. Sharon joined our class at the beginning of her Sophomore year. In two short years she became a real friend to each and every one of us. She was outstanding student and ac- tive in extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society, F.T.A., F.H.A., G.A.A., Library Club, chorus, band, and cheerleading. We feel deeply the loss of Sharon, and wish to honor her memory. It is to Sharon that we respectfully dedicate this yearbook. STATISTICS sometimes give the wrong impression. Our win-loss record was not fantastic but we gained much from our mistakes, experience is the best teacher, as the saying goes. Our Coaches, Mr. Carl Fieldbinder and assistant coach, Mr. John Balber taught us a different style of football. Once we got the hang of it things started to roll, plus the fact the team worked hard and learned a lot. Our Co-Captains were Rick Calhoun and Chuck Brewer, who pushed the team through morning practices at 6:30, and again after school. We finished the season with blisters, bruises and cuts, covered with tape and anxious for next years football season. Good pursuit and determination yields results as the Mustangs converge on a Lovington ball carrier. Good blocking gives Randy Coslow time to get off a good kick. 43 Coach Fieldbinder, Randy Florey, Charles Brewer, Jerry Cohan, Steve Tipsword, Dave Wilson, Brett Reeter, Bill McCorvie, Ken Snyder, Ricci Johnson, Charles Miller, Brent Standerfer, Larry Puyear, Greg Allsop, Ron Armer, Jim Bone, Ben Boyer, Jeff Holthaus, Brett Marshall, Mgrs. Pam Vanatta, Diana Sanders, Peggy Weakly, and Shawna Wakeland were the Senior Queen candidates. During the week the cheerleaders sponsored a football cookie day where each student received a cookie. The 71-72 Homecoming Queen, Shawna Wakeland was announced Thursday night, at the pep rally. In the Spirit of Victory we ended the rally by hanging a dummy of the Lovington Panthers. Friday afternoon, as the homecom- ing parade rolled through town, the public viewed Shawna and her court. Friday evening brought nothing but rain and bad luck to the Bethany Mustangs. Again during half time, the crowd observed the floats and our Homecoming Queen and Court while the band played on. RIP OFF HIS ARMS was the cry as excited students hang a dummy of a Lovington player over the goal post. Varsity football team scroungin' a ride. Be careful, don't crush my corsage.
