VALEDICTORIAN SALUTATORI AN Rhoda Boros Paula Gibbons SENIOR WILL We, the senior class of 59, being of sane mind and having full control of our mental facilities (every man should think for himself), do hereby leave our priceless tokens of lavish embellishment to our lower classmen. We hold only that you accept them graciously and utilize them to the best of your ability — cha cha cha. Keith McReynolds leaves his Farmals and overalls to Judy Dick, watch out for those cow pastures Judy, they’re messy. To Mr. Burklow, goes Larry Mescher’s this year’s crop of hair. Linda Mescher wills her unerring ability to style her own hair with or without a comb, to Joe MarshalL With this comes a free bottle of Larry’s hair tonic. Dee Miller leaves her stuffed animals (everything from mice to men) to Barb Shelton. Jon Pasley, with the aid of his little black book, blazed the road to Sullivan and is still working on a cow path to a Southern Illinois city, leaves his blazing ability (on the road and in the car) to John McLaughlin. George Patrick leaves some slightly used birthday invitations to anyone with a match and an opener. Larry Phillippo leaves..........Linda. Keith Reed’s perky forehead lock and grade school loves go to the casanova of the junior class -- Pat Boomer. Dwayne Barnes leaves his extraordinary athletic abilities to Larry Moon. With this gift we shall include some training rules such as: no smoking, no drinking, early hours (at night) and fewer women. We hope the strain isn’t too much for you, Larry. Being an ardent fan of the U of I, preferably to a certain frat, Rhoda Boros wills her weekend excursions to Champaign to her sister Renee. Surely you can make a few connections with the aid of three helpers instead of two!! Linda Dick, our tall, lanky senior bestows in the able hands of Jean Wheeler, her extraordinary gift of rejuvenating the precious cotton-picking machine in the southwest wing of the school. To aid in the fast get away in case the beloved strawboss is near, she leaves also her long legs. Sharon Craycroft leaves her fathomless knowledge of anything and everything to Mary Schwartz, who knows almost everything now. Jim Fitzgerald leaves his sly wink and obnoxious ways with the women to Bill Sims, although he doesn’t need it. Don Freeman wills to his sister, Kay, his industrious ability in delivering papers. Watch out for the telephone poles, Kay, they’re murder! To greater extend the social life of Marijo Fox, Jennie Manship along with her witty, sarcastic remarks, has also consented to leave her ’’you know whats, you know where, in the wee hours of the morning.” To save more embarrassment, of your norther friends, please limit your excursions, Marijo. Nina Marshall bestows to Lyndal her outlandish knack for tearing up her parents’ hard worked for cars, and to this we add her ability to put her foot in her mouth each time she opens it, providing of course your foot will fit. Dale Matheson leaves to Mazon, Sue Patrick, his marvelous ability with the discus. This will help keep you in shape for next year’s F.H.A. Slumber Party, Sue, Dale McKinney leaves all his slightly used barbells and his he-man subscriptions to Gary Moody. You can practice on John. To aid him in his search for daintiness and neatness, Mary Heckler leaves her efficiency and quick move- ments in commerce to Dick Saddoris. Good luck, Dick! The never tiring (due to lack of use) industrious ability of Roger Jarand’s plus the knack of wiggling his ears is rightfully willed to Lynn Stroyeck. Our “I Love French Student” Mary Lumsden leaves her never ending failure to have French assignments done on time to Sharon Pasley, who has a good start. Marilyn Gaither gives her Junior Cadet Flyer Wings from her favorite box of Post Toasties to John Robert. The science department is working on the ICBM to accommodate you on your flight to greater heights. Paula Gibbons leaves to Bev Shelton her ability to chase a man until he finally catches her. Coach, Charlie may be out for track next year. Into the gracious hands of his sister, Florence, goes “Sam” Greenwalt’s aims and attempts to break with the loosely woven ties which prevent him from extreme indulsion. Florence, in other words .. . “live!!” Janice Smith leaves her drawers . . . in the chemistry lab, plus a way to control Tom Stocks and Mr. Jar- and. . . verbally to John Moody. .. carry on. Jim Strauch wills his noon hour rides around town with Don Freeman to Nancy Arthur providing she gets back in time. Carol Stroyeck leaves her off-colored jokes and entertainment in class to next year’s class. David Tucker gives his poison ivy and back scratcher (only not for his back) to David Watkins. Your long arms will be a tremendous advantage in the aid of temporary relief. Kay Schwartz leaves her ... no she took that with her. . . her.. . no she took that too. . . that... no she took him too. .. thank goodness. Joe Schwartz . . . more commonly known as “blowhart” leaves his rip’ snorting ways with the females (Homer’s coon dogs) to David Emerick. Carol Sharp leaves . .. would someone please help her down the stairs, safely. Sandy Shonk gives her “number please’s” “BY’s “DA’s” and “Are you through’s” to Nancy Davis. You may have to use a little force on Janice Smith. Sue Wheeler leaves the parking space in front of her house to Bill Taylor, who’s next in line, providing a host of neighbors aren’t home. Tom Wheeler leaves ... providing he gets up early enough ( would someone light a fuse for him.)! Rita Younger wills her transotic spells and ability to be completely spellbound to Tom Stocks who some- times (or rather always talks when he should be listening). Mr. Jarand, who always seems to enjoy his own jokes (even though others do not) leaves his bit of dry humor to Jim Fitzgerald’s poolhall buddy .. . Glaser. Mrs. Breitman leaves her nerve-racking class meetings in fifth hour English class in the able hands of Charlie Roney. With the aid of a club and his common expressions, the situation will shape up fine. CLASS HISTORY Up thru the briars and round thru the brambles, forty-four bare-foot young'uns, scared to face the upper kids, ran into town, crawled under the back fence, and silently crept into the little red schoolhouse. After gaining a little courage, we elected these head young’uns to guide our scared bunch: President, Carol Sharp; Vice-President, Sandy Shonk; Secretary, Jon Pasley; Treasurer, Dale Matheson, and Reporter, Roger Jarand. We then needed still a little more courage, so we picked Pa Jostes to lead us through the thorny paths ahead. At one of our rip roarin’ meeting’s we hicks from the sticks chose Rhoda Boros and Larry Phil- lippo to stan the hay a flyin’ in that thar student government. Even tho we were a little backward in our way, we discovered some hidden talent when Rita Younger, Linda Dick, and Sue Wheeler were appointed to lead that big band, wavin’ their sticks in time to the swingin’ music. Two more peppy young’uns got the job of jumpin’ and yellin’ for the school team — Rhoda Boros and Kay Schwartz. At the annual quiltin’ party, when the former kids of ole’ Bethany High returned to raise the roof off the meetin’ place, Rita Younger and Dwayne Barnes were our pick of the crop as homecomin’ king and queen candidates. Near the end of our first scared year, Carol Stroyeck joined our merry group. SOPHOMORE We all made it to the second year of this here learnin’ place, and we even added a couple of brats -- Don F reeman and Bob Hoblit. At our first get together we voted for these young’uns to head our happy family: President, Roger Jarand; Vice-President, Larry Phillippo; Secretary, Dwayne Bjames; Treasurer, SandyShonk; and Reporter, Mary Lumsden. Ma Hickman and Pa Arnold helped to pull us through our wild second year, and Sue Wheeler and Jon Pas- ley voiced our rip snortin’ ideas in the student government. All of them thar gals that were cheerleaders and majorettes that green year, succeeded in holdin’ down their heap big jobs -- Rhoda Boros, Kay Sch- wartz, Rita Younger, Linda Dick, and Sue Wheeler. The former kids of the little red schoolhouse returned once again to that yearly barn dance, and Carol Stroyeck and Dick Lowe were our homecomin’ king and queen candidates. The little wagon, that we dressed up for this excitin’ round-up walked off with first place. JUNIOR Some of the young’uns lost their spunk and left our jolly clan -- Larry Bennett, Roger Dick, Jim Florey, Leona Jerrel, Dick Lowe, Bob Marshall, Don Turrentine, and Linda Wilkerson. But one young lad ignored their retreat and willingly took up our unsmart’ened ways -- Roger Reynolds. After noses had been counted in the big election it was revealed that these here “kiddies” would guide our bunch: President, Larry Phillippo; Vice-President, Jon Pasley; Secretary, Roger Jarand, Treasurer, Sandy Shonk, and Reporter, Dee Miller. Ma Jackson was willin’ to help us through our third year at the little brick schoolhouse, and we kept the hay a flyin’ in the student government by electin’ Carol Sharp, Tom Wheeler, and Jon Pasley. Rhoda Boros, Kay Schwartz, Rita Younger, and Sue Wheeler were elected to yell for die team to let off a little steam. Struttin’ and marchin’ in front of the band was the job of Linda Dick and Joyce Queen, who were from our clan. At the homecomin’ get together Rita Younger and Tom Wheeler were our king and queen candidates for this big ho’ down. Again our dressed up wagon won first place in the parade of all the wagons. On December 13, 1957, our play actin’ bunch performed, “Paint the Town Pink” for all the folks. We all threw a rootin’ tootin’ party for the seniors on May 10, 1958 at Taylorville, where there was a lot of eatin’, dancin’, and carryin’s on.....Wow!!! SENIOR Upon approaching’ our last stretch at the little red schoolhouse, we discovered that we had lost Bob Hoblit, Donna Smith, and Roger Reynolds from our crowd. But even though we lost three we gained one -- Walter GreenwalL These guys and gals were appointed at our first big meetin’ for this year: President, Marilyn Gaither; Vice-President, Jim Fitzgerald; Secretary, Dee Miller; Treasurer, Jon Pasley, and Reporter, Rita Young- er. Ma Breitman and Pa Jarand suffered through this last year with all us little brats; and Linda Dick, Carol Sharp and Roger Jarand were elected to do a lot of yellin’ in the student government. Still going strong Rhoda Boros, Kay Schwartz, Rita Younger, and Sue Wheeler were elected again to do some more jumpin’ and yellin’ for the team. Linda Dick was chosen to head the bank with Joyce Queen close at hand. Sue Wheeler and Walter Greenwalt were our king and queen candidates for the hoppin swingin’ homecomin’ dance. Our fancy wagon was again the pick of the crop which pleased very much our mom and pop. Here comes our play actin’ bunch again who made a lot of noise and did a lot o’ actin’ in our’ play, “The Perfect Idiot,” on November 22, 1958. The “kiddies” behind us threw a big whing ding of a party on May 16, 1959, at Taylorville where we had gobs of fun!!! About this time in dog patch land I heared about a weddin’ by “Marryin Sam.” Gettin’ hitched was Joyce Queen who departed from our jolly clan. On May 24, 1959, at the good ole’ meetin’ place we got some advice which brightened our face. Then on May 28, 1959, all the kids and their folks, all dressed in their go-meetin’ clothes, watched us graduate from the little red schoolhouse. After all this was over and done, we boarded the bus for a lot of fun at Kirkwood Lodge in the Ozarks. Our full four years have come to an end, and here we are........THE END!!!!!!
