CLASS PROPHECY Dum de dum dum . . .this is the city. . .Bethany, Illinois.. .I’m a “snooper”. . .1 work here for the present time. My job is to check up on my old classmates of 1958. Gasp! What’s that? It’s David Windell, the world’s greatest nature scientist. David says he has the largest geranium plants to be found anywhere. I'd better hurry along or I’m liable to get caught in a man- eater plant. Wait a minute. . .Who is this starring in the picture showing in Bethany? Hmmm Kiss of Fire’’ with Gale Wheeler and Judy Clark. Looks like they made a go of it. Remind me to look in on that picture. Just came from visiting Janet Heite, who is still as pretty as ever and the proud mother of four, and she told me that several of my old buddies have moved out of town. John Ball bought out Ford and General Motors Corporations and now designs the GENFOMO car of the future. His sketches in high school vrere always good. Well, well, if it isn’t Jean Hudson, who is the owner of “Slenderella Beauty Salon’’ in Bethany. Jean says It keeps me from gaining so much weight from eating those swell Florini pizzas . Let’s see who else I can look up. . .looks like a track meet there at the high school. That great track star, Dwayne Barnes is giving an exhibition. . .if I hurry maybe, I can find Ellen Dick.. .she’s his press agent now, you know. Gee whizzl Linda Shonk, how young you look and so energetic! How does it feel to be editor of the Bethany Echo? No! Don’t tell me Jo DeVore and Russell have a new addition to the family? Swell! The more, the merrier I always say. Before she left, Linda told me that Gene Boros and his wife Nancy are now the leading singers in the Metropolitan Opera Company. Hope I can still get a season’s ticket, it would certainly be worth hearing. This ride in the country surely is invigorating. What a large farm that is -- I understand that Mary Gaither and Jack Crane own it and from that washing of diapers on the clothesline, I suspect they are raising more than just cattle and corn. To the left is Bob Barnes’country estate. Bob is quite the man about town. He’s still single and simply rolling in money since those ten oil wells were found on his land. Bob always was business-minded and never mixed business with pleasure. I guess you know who the President of the United States is now. . .none other than our own Joyce Brown, still a Democrat too. Her sister, Judith, holds the office of Press Secretary and they are both doing a splendid job too. What’s all the barking about? It seems to be coming from the Hungate dog kennels. Quite a string of thoroughbred hounds Stewart has there, best in the state, I understand! Guess what Fred Marshall and Larry Sims are doing? They’re Incorporated now.. .Marshall and Sims Real Estate and Construction. Fred sells the land and Larry builds the houses. Quite a racket, wouldn’t you say? Larry told me that Bethany High has a new band director, Janet Schwartz. She was president of the band her senior year, you remember, and is now quite an expert on the clarinet.
