CLASS PROPHECY Dum de dum dum . . .this is the city. . .Bethany, Illinois.. .I’m a “snooper”. . .1 work here for the present time. My job is to check up on my old classmates of 1958. Gasp! What’s that? It’s David Windell, the world’s greatest nature scientist. David says he has the largest geranium plants to be found anywhere. I'd better hurry along or I’m liable to get caught in a man- eater plant. Wait a minute. . .Who is this starring in the picture showing in Bethany? Hmmm Kiss of Fire’’ with Gale Wheeler and Judy Clark. Looks like they made a go of it. Remind me to look in on that picture. Just came from visiting Janet Heite, who is still as pretty as ever and the proud mother of four, and she told me that several of my old buddies have moved out of town. John Ball bought out Ford and General Motors Corporations and now designs the GENFOMO car of the future. His sketches in high school vrere always good. Well, well, if it isn’t Jean Hudson, who is the owner of “Slenderella Beauty Salon’’ in Bethany. Jean says It keeps me from gaining so much weight from eating those swell Florini pizzas . Let’s see who else I can look up. . .looks like a track meet there at the high school. That great track star, Dwayne Barnes is giving an exhibition. . .if I hurry maybe, I can find Ellen Dick.. .she’s his press agent now, you know. Gee whizzl Linda Shonk, how young you look and so energetic! How does it feel to be editor of the Bethany Echo? No! Don’t tell me Jo DeVore and Russell have a new addition to the family? Swell! The more, the merrier I always say. Before she left, Linda told me that Gene Boros and his wife Nancy are now the leading singers in the Metropolitan Opera Company. Hope I can still get a season’s ticket, it would certainly be worth hearing. This ride in the country surely is invigorating. What a large farm that is -- I understand that Mary Gaither and Jack Crane own it and from that washing of diapers on the clothesline, I suspect they are raising more than just cattle and corn. To the left is Bob Barnes’country estate. Bob is quite the man about town. He’s still single and simply rolling in money since those ten oil wells were found on his land. Bob always was business-minded and never mixed business with pleasure. I guess you know who the President of the United States is now. . .none other than our own Joyce Brown, still a Democrat too. Her sister, Judith, holds the office of Press Secretary and they are both doing a splendid job too. What’s all the barking about? It seems to be coming from the Hungate dog kennels. Quite a string of thoroughbred hounds Stewart has there, best in the state, I understand! Guess what Fred Marshall and Larry Sims are doing? They’re Incorporated now.. .Marshall and Sims Real Estate and Construction. Fred sells the land and Larry builds the houses. Quite a racket, wouldn’t you say? Larry told me that Bethany High has a new band director, Janet Schwartz. She was president of the band her senior year, you remember, and is now quite an expert on the clarinet. The east part of town now, and what beautiful Poll-Hereford cattle! They belong to the Oathout Here- ford Farm, which is run by my old classmate, Audrey Oathout. Her cattle has won many ribbons at the fairs and it’s no wonder with all the help Audrey has. Her foreman is Bud Cazel and he really has a way with cattle. Here comes that pretty redhead, Carol Bennett, who is home on a vacation from her hairdressing salon on Fifth Avenue, New York. Carol says “Those city crowds really get me down.” Well, guess that’s everyone, surely has been fun seeing everyone again. Guess I’ll get back to the city. . .Los Angeles, California. . .1 work there. . .I’m a cop. CLASS WILL We, the undersigned, of the Senior Class of 1958, (until our legal deaths) do hereby solemnly declare this to be our last will and testament; and being of the soundest mind possible, we hereby will, bequeath, diligently give, hand over, get rid of, donate, contribute, and otherwise dispose of the following priceless possessions to those unworthy recipients in the hopes that these unparalleled originalities will further inspire them to higher goals and remove them from the depths of recidivism. To Tom Wheeler, who has a natural inclination for speaking first, goes John Ball’s ability to in- variably be the first one called on to give a report in Family Living class. After the many hours of taping and gluing. Bob Barnes has satisfactorily completed the process of rejuvenating his somewhat dilapidated Mello-Tone mufflers which he disposes in the able hands of Jim Fitzgerald. As a token of lavish embellishment, Carol Bennett leaves her flaming red freckles with Janice Smith to help improve Janice’s self-treatments in Cosmetology. Since Bob Hoblit will be spending the summer in Colorado, Gene Boros lends his mid-day promenade to the post office for a three cent stamp to Sandy Shonk so she can write to Bob. Joyce Brown, who by now has developed a severe case of laryngitis, bequeaths her 8:37 morning announcements to the next president of the Senior Class. Because of the time element, it is of the utmost importance that the next president be punetuaL To Pedro” (Don Freeman) goes one wedding list ( in good condition) from Judith Brown. Good luck, Don! Carolyn Yakey, the upcoming siren of the Sophomore Class, is the fortunate receiver of Judy Clark’s feminine charm, more commonly known as “sex-appeal’’. With one final cry of “never give in to English teachers” Jack Crane donates his vociferant out- bursts in English class to Jenny Manship. To lucky, lucky Dee Miller goes Mary Ann Gaither’s midnight oil and bookkeeping sets. If this gets you down we’ll send you a bottle of Geritol Junior. As a means of rescuing Charles Roney from the halloween witches, Stewart Hungate wills to Charley one of his prize basset hounds. In a futile effort to maintain silence in the lower corridors, Jean Hudson gives her periodical •‘diet ’ to Linda Dick since Linda needs to take off a few pounds around the vocal chords. (Sir) Dale Frederick Marshall II, acting on natural impulses, leaves . . .would someone please open a window? To Sharon Craycroft goes Audrey Oathout’s reinforced seat in front of Jon Pasley. One word of caution, Sharon, Audrey says he is tricky. After June 8, Jo Poole leaves her wedding bells to Kay Schwartz. Rolling pins can be purchased at your nearest hardware store, Kay. Janet Schwartz willingly gives her big, brown bedroom eyes to Sue Wheeler as a compliment to the flexible eyebrows which seem to give Sue a little trouble at times. To our unfortunate bald-headed buddy, Larry Mescher, goes Linda Shonk’s long, flowing, home- grown pony-tail. Larry Sims’ ability to render sweet nothings of nothing to members of the opposite sex is contri- buted to ‘•Mousy — Lary Phillippo. The undeniable charm and long eyelashes of Skip Wheeler are left to Jim Strauch. David W indell leaves his hairy chest to Dale McKinney. The class donates a pair of scissors so Dale won’t choke to death. To Joe Schwartz, who is badly in need of some new excuses, goes Janet Yakey’s aches and pains. Believe me, Janet is glad to get rid of them. For those students wishing a never-fail cure for colds, Mr. Burklow leaves his slightly used raw lemons. Mr. Jar and bequeaths his famed characterization sketches to anyone brave enough to attack this new realm of science. We hold these statements to be self-evident of our esteemed generosity and unselfishness. We give these vast treasures in the hands of those who we feel will cherish them for a lifetime (if they hold up that long). With these last words we hereby declare the last estate of the Senior Class of 1958 to be of- ficially closed.
