Broncs dump 13 consecutive foes before falling 2. First Broncho team to go to finals in Central State Invitational tournament 3. First Broncho team in history of school to defeat Putnam by 14 points f40-261 4. First Broncho team to go through double Central Conference undefeated 110-05 5. Bronchos beat Yukon for District crown The purple and white had 7 lettermen from the 47-48 team and with this strength they ran over 13 victims before losing to Crooked Oak in the semifinals of the County tournament 31-30. Coldiron made a free shot with one second to play to give the Roughnecks the win. The Bronchos made history when they went to the finals of the Central State Teachers College Tournament. The first team the Bronchos set down was Fairfax 26-14. The next night they sped to an easy victory over Choctaw 32-20. The semi-final game was with the hard fighting Pawnee Indians and a win of 45-50. This wis perhaps the best game the Bronchos played all year. The finals found Bethany meeting Cleveland for a terrific game all the way. The score stood 45 all with l minute 3 seconds remaining, but Cleveland went ahead to win 53-45. Our cross town rivals the Putnam Pirates faced a stubborn band of Bronchos which preceded to tab the Pirates with the worst loss a Bethany team has given them. The score was more equally distributed among the individual team members than any other as the score ended 40-26. By defeating Crooked Oak 38-34 the Bronchos cinched a tie for the conference, and went ahead to beat Moore and Foster to take the Central Conference crovsm undefeated C10-OJ which no other Be hanyb team has done before Bronchs scored 404 points for an 44.8 point average in Conference play as the opponents just scored 297 points for 33 points average. The third ti.me was a charm as Bethany won the District at Crooked Oak and brought home the trophy. Se-mi-finals brought together Bethany and Crooked Oak for the 3rd time. It was close all the way with Crooked Oak leading 35-34 with 20 seconds remaining Bob and Travis stole the ball and went down to score for the win 35-36. Edging by' Yukon in the finals by the same 36-35. The Broncs got the right to play in the Regionals. . Just 4 points away from the state tourrament was all as Bethany lost a heartbreaker to Dale in the finals of the Regionals 30-27. The Bronchos beat the favored Byng Pirates 35-32 in the semi-finals, but Dale won in the last minute of play as the score was tied 27-27 with 45 seconds to play Dale went ahead and won to give tficm a ticket '0 the state tournament. r COACH SHERRLL Coach Hershel Sherrill, a B. H. S. graduate and star of the team in 1940-41, returned to take up coach- ing and led the team to the Region- al Finals and a season record of 27 wins and 3 losses. After graduating in '41 he went into the army where he spent 3 years. He returned to go to school at Ed- mond in '45 and is a Senior this year. Attended classes in the morning and coached an the afternoon. All B. H. S, was proud of him as our roach.
