It gave its first rendition of Hande1's Messiah, March 28 to April 3, 1882. Since then, the students of Bethany College and the citizens of the community have sung the immortal music of Handel and Bach. The present director, Dr. Hagbard Brase, has been in charge since 1915. The reputation of the Messiah Chorus has spread to all parts of the United States and the world. Recordings have been made for the past three years and rebroadcasts have reached the far corners of the world. This past year choruses from Hande1's Messiah were presented by the Bethany Oratorio Society in the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri, in observance of the eightieth anniversary of the Salvation Army. The recog- nition Lindsborg and Bethany receives has been made possible by the splen- did cooperation of the students, faculty members, and town people who constitute the chorus and orchestra, and the fine performance and under- standing oi the score by Dr. Brase. Each year professionals are engaged as guest soloists for the Easter Week Festival. ln addition to their Sunday performances they present in- dividual recitals for the public. The soloists this year were Irma Cooper, soprano: Ianet Bush, alto: Iames Montgomery, tenor, and Orcenith Smith, bass. To the thousands who have heard the chorus sing, the Messiah Festival represents the acme in choral music. Each Easter finds Linclsborg a Mecca for a constantly increasing host of those who love good music.
