English The goal of the English Department is to develop and maintain the ability to write clear and effective English. The department wants to guide students toward an increased understanding and critical appreciation of their liter- ary heritage, and help prepare them for graudate and professional study. The department also provides programs that prepare students for certification as teachers of English and Language Arts.
