It was a year of changes too many for some, too few for others. It was a year of moon walks and countless marches. Astronauts took steps for mankind while moratorium supporters stepped for peace. Voices of dissent were heard everywhere and the silent majority grew louder. American flogs and peace symbols hung together from windows and from the bumpers of cars. And somehow, Bethany was right there, caught up with everything, and at the same time, so far removed. We were allowed and encouraged to reach outside and grow and develop, to become worldly and wise. We were able to find new horizons and share new ideas. And yet we were also permitted and often urged, to stay within our brick walls and reap the peace and solitude and comfort they afforded. Some of us went to extremes; we became only worldly or we stayed only comfortable. And some of us were fortunate enough to shore the two. Bethanians ore sensitive people faced with infinite opportunities and boundless possibilities. To present on paper everything that these people represent and all that Bethany is, would be on impossible task. This book con only attempt to capture the mood and being of Bethany and its people. And it is dedicated to every student, faculty member, and administrator that mokes Bethany the very special place that it is.
