The year 1969 will be remembered by Bethanians for as many personal and individual reasons as there are days in any year. But one remembrance will transcend all the many intimate recollec- tions that a collegian clings to. This re- membrance, infinitely more important than the others, will recall to Bethanians the year of 1969 when Bethany Col- lege matured because its students chose it to. The remembrance of the year when individuality did not necessarily have to be prefixed with Greek letters; The remembrance of the year when Trustees, Administrators, Faculty, and Alumni agreed that Bethany could wet her feet in the stream of progress and enter the ranks of the ' conservatively liberal ' ; and, finally and most impor- tantly, the remembrance of the year when respect, admiration, and attentive- ness were accorded to the growing number of students who chose to end their silence and speak out. The Beth- anian for 1969, then, is a record of the re-awakening of individuality at Bethany College. Whether it be the symbolic van- tage point achieved by Judy Royce on Jeff Andrews ' shoulders (right) or a group of individuals in interaction on the way to class or in a card game fop- pos te page), 1 969 amounts to the same thing— individuals in intellectual pur- suit of themselves and others.
