Hrcbtbalb nDcXean. ARCHIBALD McLEAN was born of Malcolm and Alexandra McLean, on beautiful Prince Edward Island, Can- ada. He united with the Christian Church in Summerside. After working tor awhile at carriage making, he entered Bethany College in September, i86c). He graduated in June, 1874, and began work immediately for the f ongregation at Mt. Healthy, Ohio. In March, 1882, he was elected Corresponding Secretary of the Foreign Christian Missionary Society, which oflfice he has held ever since. In 1885 he resigned the work at Mt. Healthy in order to give his entire time to the Society. On the death of W. H. Woolery, he was elected President of Old Bethany, which position he held for two years. This double work, with the headquarters of each so widely apart as Cincinnati and Bethany, was more than he could handle, and June 17, 1891, he resigned the Presidency ' and reHn ned with undivided energy to the office of the F. C. M. S. Mr. McLean is a preacher and writer of great force and ability. As President of Bethany he labored hard and successfully in the interests of the college, and won an enduring place in the hearts of both students and teachers. As Corresponding Secretary he has labored in season and out of season. Pie is wedded to his work. In its interests he recently completed a circuit of the globe. He is a man of strong individuality. Pie is agressive, sympathetic and kind. Kone know him but to love, none name him but to praise. 12
