On Writing Compositions FRADEL FINKELSTEIN How can I forget the agony of writing this composition? I write and write and re- write and yet it doesn't seem well written. I rip it up and start all over again. Will something of mine be accepted for the yearbook? Are other girls more gifted than I? Why do I find writing so difficult? I recall looking through all the topics given to us by our teacher. Finally, I found one that I thought would be of interest. After spending an entire night on The Value of an Education , I realized that the topic deserved better treatment. Undaunted, I tried again. However, try as I might, I found no success. Then it occured to me. Why not write about the difficulty of writing a composition? Perhaps the difficulty is due to a lack of writing skills . Perhaps the writer has insuf- ficient knowledge of his subject matter. It is impossible to convince others of that which you yourself are uncertain. These are two of the basic problems I find that I encounter in writing compositions I Wonder how many of my classmates have similar problems in writing their composi tions.
