Ted Scales, the chief of the janitorial force, has been at Bessemer High for many, many years. Perhaps more than any one person he is considered part of the Bessemer environment. Ted has many various tasks in keeping our school comfortable for students, and attractive and presentable to the public. Ted arrives at school every morning at about 5:30 A.M. during the winter in order to stoke the furnace and have the buildings ready for the day's occupancy. And who can estimate the amount of effort needed in cleaning up after careless students? Yes, Ted's job is never finished, and it is his loyalty and devotion to duty that make him an integral part of our school! 12
