CLASS POEM By Roland Stacey The Road of Life There's a road we all must follow In the life we lead today, A road where some find sorrow Because they are lead astray. A road that seems each year To lengthen a little bit, And to shallow souls brings fear, While others delight in it. Daily in this road temptations grow To block the narrow trail That like the bubbling brook does flow To our Father's Holy Grail . So as you follow the road called life, Be sure of the road you take, For in one can be found a happy life, While the other is only a fake. CLASS PRAYER BY PEGGY JOYCE Dear God: We stand unfinished before Thee, realizing Thy power and Thy goodness. May this faith be strengthened as we meet the challenge of a different life. We pray that the will to progress mentally and spiritually will continue to flourish in each of our varied live s. Teach our inexperienced eyes and hearts the beauty of Thy world that we may not know hate not envy, but learn that Life has Loveliness to Sell . Forever keep us within Thy fold, we humbly pray. 14 Amen

CLASS PROPHECY BY SHIRLEY COOKE Here it is 1970 and the time for the '52 class reunion has finally arrived. Like the classes before us, we have each gone our separate ways only to return and be together again. They are arriving now, so lets take a look to see how time has molded the lives of each of us -- Jane Coble met her husband, Lawrence, me at the skating rink where they immediately fell in love. They are now the world's greatest skating team. Thelma Buckner is now making a success of her lifelong ambition to be an artist. Maybe you've seen the clever little drawings in the Esquire. Betty Williamson's vocal talent has sent her on the road to stardom. Her success is primarily due to her manager and new husband, Marvin Miller. None other than Don Murchison leads the national record in running, passing, punting and brilliant defense play. Don has paved the way for the House of David football team to their 10th consecutive world championship. Garland Boaz has really stepped up in this old world. Just who do you think is turning out all those delicious meals at the White House? He and his wife, Ruby (only twice his age), have become Washington socialites. Josh Harris, acclaimed as the best tobacco grower in the south, has just introduced a new farming system to the agricultural colleges. Sue Brown, Bessemer's lanky star forward has really made a name for herself in the athletic field. She's playing pivot for the nationally known Globetrotters. Peggy Joyce, our little nurse, has turned her profession into a home nursery. Peg has eleven boys. Although she always wanted a football team of her own, that was when 6-man football was in existence. It's lucky thing the Joe Dimaggio dropped out of the baseball limelight when he did. He wouldn't have stood a chance with Bessemer's Home Run King, Earl Simpson, making baseball history, swinging his mighty bat. Sallie Murray, Bessemer's own love 'em and leave 'em gal, is now starring in Broadway's biggest hit, How Could This Happen To Me. Roland Stacey, our class poet, who has always been able to make any old line rhyme, is now making them reach from pole to pole. Duke Power is the business address of this young man. Calvin Strickland, our Spotlight editor, has made journalism his career, and circulation of the Beacon has increased 100% since he took over. Ramona Evans is now leading a quiet life as wife of a country Minister. She hasn't much time for outside activities since minding 7 boys is quite a job. We hardly recognized Bryant Cummings as the prosperous young lawyer from Philidelphia, who has just cleared himself of a forgery charge. The famous model who is coming back to her home town for the '52 class reunion is no other than Marjorie Hayes. Marge is an added attraction to Powers Modeling Agency. Did Admiral Byrd really discover the North Pole? We wonder if the credit doesn't belong to Admiral Elray Boyd who has shown the U.S. Navy a few of his nautical abilities. We figured Marion Oakes would enter the textile business when he grad- uated, but we were mistaken! Monk holds the position of Vice-President in a well-known lumber company here in Bessemer. Senator Clyde Smith has created quite a stir in Washington this year and the final vote was 452-1 to have him placed in exile. The sign on his chair now reads gone fishing . Bob Wooten with his bathing beauty figure has shaped us his own physical culture school, listed in the phone book as Hercules' School of Muscles. You've probably heard of the great chain of drug stores that employs only men. Well, Doris Griffin is the owner and don't think she doesn't have an active interest in her business. 15
