In July. 1979. SKYLAB crashed to the earth, bringing down tons of space debris, but leaving behind both added knowledge and bright new hopes for an exciting future. But then, it hurt a little. 39 1 0? 500 «S0l The 1979 Homecoming floats were really greatl This year's theme was Sweet Home Alabama. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors all worked hard to have competitive floats. All floats turned out fantastic, but once again the juniors took the winning title. On the night of November 2 the Rebels poured onto the field for a victorious Homecoming game leaving the score 26-0. The following night the B.A. gym rocked to the sound of The Most for the Homecoming Dance. Should we smile for times to come and things we haven't done yet. or should we cry for things we'll miss and the friends we will never forget. We now realize the importance of all the books and those people who cared and we're grateful most of all for each other, because of secrets and good times we shared. There is a special dream of the future that fills each and every mind, but no matter what the future holds we'll have a good reason to look behind. Everything we have done through school seems better now than ever, and all of us appreciate our special time together. Everyone's goodbye will be different either a smile, a glance, or a touch, but each goodbye will be filled with love because you have given us so much. Class Poet Lisa Reid 81 CLASS HISTORY As we think back over the years of the events leading to the present, we realize that we have come a long way. We began our years here in the fourth grade, learning to make do with what little we had. The excitement of this year was deciding that the school mascot would be the REBELS. Our fifth grade year was when life really began for us. They shipped us from the little red barn to the big blue can, where they told us that we were the worst class ever and that we would have this reputation for the rest of our days at B.A.; which was true. Our Jr. High days quickly passed after we were finally allowed to go to assemblies and the big sock hops. Still with our reputation, our Freshman year we were told to set an example for the new students coming from Greenwood, but after a few days with these new students we were marked for life. Our Sophomore year we realized we had only two more years to go. This was the year we learned how to handle our teachers with our innocence. We didn't get away with much that year, be we sure tried. We built our first float with much success, considering most our our time was spent on the golf course running golf carts into the lake. Our Junior year began with much excitement. Ordering our rings was just the start for our class. The biggest challenge was seeing who could stay the longest at the Prom without being kicked out. This year we also built our first and only winning float. We realized after the 79 Class Day ceremony that our Senior year had just begun. Ordering pictures, invitations and caps and gowns made us realize that twelve years of hard work were now treasured memories. We promised ourselves at the beginning of the year, that this would be one year that B.A. would never forget! With the guidance of the faculty and our friends, we leave B.A.. understanding that we are leaving a lot of memories and fun times behind to go out and face what is ahead of each and every one of us, THEY THOUGHT WE WOULDN’T MAKE IT. Co-owner BO NORRIS went all-out to make this a special occasion for all of us. Thanks to the shrewd business dealings of BOB ATCHISON, we finally have a decent band to provide entertainment — The Allman Brothers Band, with BARRY GRAHAM replacing Dickey Betts. And in case somebody passes out. from too much excitement, of course, we have nurses ANNA KINES and TERESA JONES to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. After making an unsuccessful bid for the Presidency of the United States, CAROL WEBB decided to remain the permanent president of the Student Council, which is sponsoring tonight's reunion. GLYNELL PIKE is catering tonight's affair with barbecued spare-ribs from Pike's Peak, the Tops in Good Eating. Through close connections, KATRINA EVERETT is providing yogurt for dessert. For anyone who's interested, there'll be a penny-pitching contest after the reunion, with WAYNE Megabucks KELLER defending his title against MORRIS POSEY and JOHN HALL. We have some celebrities here tonight. LYNN MIDDLEBROOKS and JOANNA PILLITTERI of ABC's hit TV show Charlie's Cheerleaders are in the center of the room demonstrating some of the moves that made them famous. Internationally famous ballerina, LISA GREENE, who recently defected to Acapulco, is also in attendance. KELLY MORRIS, who took Broadway by storm with her portrayal of Linus in Linus Goes To Cleveland, is sitting at her table talking to AmTrak Airline pilot, JAMIE PEARSON. JENNIE KELLEY couldn't make it tonight, what with having to stay home with her five kids and study for her final exam in engineering at the same time. MELANIE ANNE COGGIN couldn't attend, either. She's on a Marine patrol boat making her rounds in the South Pacific. Everybody's talking about the sensational trial now being held in Birmingham courts. It seems FRANK SUTLEY finally found out who stole his car. It was the manager of J.C. Penney's in Midfield! The manager, with his 1963 mouse-gray Ford sedan, was envious of Frank's car. Now. with DAVID NORRED as his lawyer, Frank is pressing charges. TODD PADEN is the poor manager's defense lawyer. The mayor of Greenwood, LEIGH LAGRONE, and the Chief of Police in Shannon, KERRY RICHARDS, are here. Leigh took up for Greenwood for so long she was rewarded with the office of mayor, pulling just ahead of her opponent, TIM WILLIAMS, in the election. CINDY WHITE just walked in, talking excitedly to BELINDA SEXTON and TAMMY RUSSELL. She's probably telling them What I did last night!! Using her Best Conversationalist title to its fullest, TAMMY STONE has become the United States Ambassador to East Toboga. B.A.'s answer to Cheryl Tiegs, LIBBY BARR, has given up modeling to become Tammy's public relations person. The newest member of the Ernest Angley Revival Choir, DUANE TERPO, just arrived, explaining fellow graduate DOUG MAYO would be a little late. Duane says Doug was picked up by the police on a charge of indecent exposure. Apparently, Doug unbuttoned one button too many. By the way. remember how long CAROLINE HORN’S hair was? Well, not only has she made a mint representing Wella Balsam, but now she's just been chosen to play the lead in MGM'S Lady Godiva Rides Again. Last night on The CBS Evening News with MIKE HOADLEY, Mike reported a late breaking news story. In a surprise move, PAM FREEMAN, JENNIFER RANDOLPH, and JENNIFER BRADFORD have married the BeeGees. It came as a surprise because up until now, they had dated only Huey, Dewey and Louie. In another story, SAM REYNOLDS has developed the most sophisticated and intelligent computer in the world. With the help of master computer programmers, KAM MONTGOMERY and TERRI HOLLAND, he has combined the knowledge of every great brain, thinker, and philosopher in history and come up with the following earthshaking statement; The average American eats 140 McDonad's hamburgers every year. LISA REID’S made quite a name for herself on 4th Avenue. Due to her enormous local popularity, she's knocked out the interior of the YMCA and turned it into Lisa's Last-Chance Beauty Parlor — For Clients Over 70. She's retained famous cosmetic surgeon DEBORAH DORNING. Deborah is very successful; we hear her lines start in the rear. Her lines of customers, that is. Two of Lisa's beauty consultants are KATHY BUNN AND DEBBIE GRAMMER, co-authors of their recent best-seller How to Act Like A Lady, While You Walk Like A Man, and their follow-up comedy smash, Btiquette-Shmetiquette. I'll Sit However I Like. International jet-setter and beauty queen, SUZANNE JETTON has finally settled down in Paris. Last week-end she married Ryan O'Neal in Rome. Or was it Neil Simon? Maybe It was Simon and Schuster. Could've been any of them. ED CASON couldn't be here tonight, either. As a renowned architect, he and his personal secretary, ANGIE AD AMS, have been busy in his office, designing the new wing of the greatly-enlarged Cason's Florists, called the Flower Tower. Concluding tonight's reunion will be a private screening of film director JERRY QUINN’S first film. KEITH CROWE stars as the hot-rodding young hero with JOE TOMMIE as the truck-driving villain. The film, Howl of the Hyena will have a laughing CINDY JORDAN providing the sound effects. We hope you will have an enjoyable time tonight. Before our reunion begins, we'd like to say how much the Seniors of 1980 appreciate the time and guidance we have received from the teachers and administrators at Bessemer Academy. The love and knowledge you have given us will be with us always. And, with this knowledge, we feel confident that we can live up to our full potential in tomorrow's world. Good luck. The band and auxiliary groups practice during the summer months so they can entertain the audience during halftime at the football games. Bessemer Academy football owes a lot to the great financial support of the Quarterback Club which puts forth time and effort selling ads and having pictures made so they can compile the football program. Great care is taken in cutting the grass and drawing the yard lines to prepare for each home game of the season. The team gets a lot of support from the student body, teachers, and parents as they do their best through each exciting game. DEFENSE — Uoyd Ethndge. Jimbo Roe, Max jinks. Randal Guyton. Jack Terry.
