doesn t mean we love them any more I thrnk I understand answered Joanre rn a small vorce holdrng the lrttle puppy close to her heart Mrs Henderson pard the proprretor and a few mrnutes later a very happy lrttle grrl walked down the street wrth two wonderful presents a lrttle puppy wrth a black button of a nose and a brg lesson rn the meanrng of love Audrey Drake 56 DANNY S TRAGEDY Mommy my head aches' These are the words that Danny s mother Mrs Nelson wrll always remember for they are the words that were spoken by her son the day he was strrcken wrth polro Lrttle Danny was but frve years old at the trme he was taken rll wrth thrs terrrble drsease Danny had always been a healthy lrttle boy for thrs reason when he complarned of not feelrng well he was rmmedrately taken to the doctor Of course Mr and Mrs Nelson felt very bad about therr son s sudden rllness but were told that rt was a very slrght case and that Danny would soon recover However as trme passed Danny became worse rnstead of better and had to be put rnto an rron lung After a long perrod of about seven months Danny slowly began to recover and was removed from the lung to be placed rn hrs home town hosprtal As a result of exercrsrng hrs muscles Danny became much stronger Each day he was lrfted gently rnto a wheel charr and wheeled out to the sun porch of the hosprtal How thrs de lrghted the lrttle fellow' Mom and Dad Nelson were joyous over therr boy s rmprov rng condrtron What a shock rt was when Danny s parents were told that therr son would never walk agarn But look how much better he rs' It can t be true How can we ever tell hrm thrs? At Boys State there were two mam partres the Federalrsts and the Natronalrsts the remarnder were Independents In the Federalrst party I got to be a State Commrt teeman and on the Gubernatorral Platform Commlttee It was our duty to mfluence the Independents to vote Federalrst One of the brggest events of the week was the State Electron where our candrdate for governor Gerald Amero won I got to be one of the thtrty senators Our party had a majorrty of two to one tn the Senate wrth a good majortty rn the house also our party was well rn control The remamder of the two days at Boys State after the State Electron was de voted to the hearmg of and votrng on b1lls submrtted by vanous legrslators I had the very great honor of bemg appornted Charrman of The Taxatron Commrttee whrch rs a Jomt standrng commrttee composed of both senators and representatrves To me thrs was the most mterestmg and colorful part of the week s actrvmes because of our excellent rnstructors and lrvely debates In conclusron I belreve that the background obtarned at Boys State would be very hard to duplrcate and that rt would be a prrvrlege for any student to go and en Joy rt as I have Robert Lrttlefreld 56 PUPPY for LITTLE IOANIE Joame saw the puppy she wanted as soon as she and her mother entered the pet shop He was rrght up front rn the brg show wrndow hrs llttle black button of a nose pressed agamst the wall of hrs pen The proprretor a lrttle Jolly gray hatred man bustled forward to wart on them Mrs Henderson explarned that they wanted a puppy for Joame The proprretor smlled He IS a cutre rsn t he? He prcked up the lrttle puppy and placed rt rn Joame s arms Oh he s the best dog rn the whole wrde world crred Joame Joame patted and talked to hrm just lrke he were a real person Suddenly the puppy wrrggled out of Joame s arms and scampered across the floor Mrs Henderson speakmg rather sharply sard I can see where he would be hard to handle Ioame s heart sank She had to prove that she could handle the puppy easrly she Just had to! She would just srmply dre 1f she couldn thave that puppy! So she trptoed up to the puppy but every trme she came wrthm rnches of htm he would run away I thmkl know how to handle the puppy sard the proprretor Just watch me He prcked up a folded newspaper walked over to the puppy and he whacked the pup nght across the rear wrth the paper Now you let me prck you up young man he ordered Sure enough' The puppy let hrm do Just that' You see lrttle grrl sard the proprxetor love wrthout drscrplme can be very harmful.
