Three years of English and three years of social science are requirements in each course. The college preparatory course prepares for college. It is certified when grades of seventy-five or better are maintained. Colleges usually require a student desiring to be admitted by certification to stand in the upper two-thirds of his class. When a student begins tenth grade, it is important that he select such subjects as will meet the entrance requirements of the college of his choice. Requirements for the college preparatorv course in- clude two years of the same language and chemistry or physics-preferably both. In addition to second year algebra it is advisable to take plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Art and several other subjects may be included as electives. ff fs, .loel Riegel, Marc Hartn Hagenbuch work out an the chemistry lab. A minimum of two periods per week is required of all students. No student is excused from physical education classes except on the written statement of a qualified physician. Students with doctor's excuses take physical education theory. A course of three periods per week in health is required of all students in the eleventh grade. First aid is taught in the first semester and home nursing during the second semester. Students who successfully complete the work in these classes receive Red Cross First Aid Certificates. This year's band shows the results of a five year building program. ln the annual spring concert the band played an outstanding program comparable to those of the championship bands of the 1930's. Each year through its own efforts of raising money the members take a'trip of four or five days. Last year the group went to Boston to hear the Boston Pops Orchestra and to view the many places of historical interest there. The band is under the capable direction of Prof. R. R. Few organizations of any kind can point to the growth and achievement which has characterized the history of the Future Farmers of America. This organization for boys studying agriculture has grown to a member- ship of four hundred thousand since its beginning in 1928. The Berwick Chapter has thirty-nine members un- der the guidance of Mr. Carl M. Davis. Members of the F.F.A. have many times demonstrated the v a l u e of training in agriculture by developing into leading farmers, livestock men, fruit growers, horticulturists, and re- lated occupations. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The aim of this organization is to promote a growing appreciation of homemaking, its joys and satisfac- tions. This year the group has sponsored several candy apple sales and roller skating parties to earn money to buy F.H.A. jackets for the senior mem- bers. A meeting is held every two weeks. Table setting contests, discussions on etiquette, and panel discussions on various subjects take place. The 1954-55 officers are: Dawn Chepey, President, Lauretta Henrie, Vice President, Dorothy Davis, Sec- retary, Janet Hosler, Treasurer.
