' 5' . 15 CLASS HISTORY Of the class that first trudged up the steps of the little red school house twelve years ago only four have finished all!-welve grades here They are Arloa Whipple Joyce Carlson Lois Newman and Betty Oberdick Miss Tyler started us on our way During the next five years our teachers were Vlss Orr Miss Stockwell, and Hrs Shreves vie took part in several musical programs and operettas Among them were 'The Palace of Carelessness' and 'The Inn of the Golden Cheese' In the spring of the sixth grade our big event of our grade school days came when we had our Sneak Dey This made us feel very big and important went to Denver where we began the day with a visit t K L Z and he Capitol where we shook hands with the Governor Next we were Mr Hoffman's guests at the Denver theater From the theater we drove to City Park where we all enjoyed a picnic Later we visited the zoo and the city museum and drove out to Lowry Held We returned home tired but very happy after a never-to be forgotten day We entered the seventh grade under the leadership of Mrs Gammlll Those enrolled were Arloa Whipple Don Stroh Albert Schlelger Betty Oberdick Lois Newman Beverly Blades Dorothy King Joyce Carlson Jewela Sterkel Bob Garner John Paul Miller, Beatrice Adame Joan Abbott Donna Myers, Elinor Brown Bobbie Yaldiveso, Dick Stotts Elmer Burback Harold Peterson, Jolfm Ramos, Alvin Starck and Gale Upton During the year we had several parties among them being a Christmas party with the eighth grade and a theater party Our annual picnic was held at Loveland The class officers were president. Lucille Schaefer solo Mildred Hahn 'Chinese lul aby' Sextette solo Nell Kiehn reading Phyllis Albrecht piano and accordion numbers by Arloa Whipple and Elsie Buehler On November 25 the Senior class held a turkey raffle The money we received from the chances sold started the curtain fund The draw- ing was held down town and Arloa and Elsie furnished the entertsipment On December 12 the Junior-Senior Play 'What Happened to Uncle?' was a big success We had a food sale for the curtain fund on January 31 In January Dolores Evans and Betty Oberdick entertained the class at a party We went to the show in Loveland and than to the Oberdick home for refreshments Hear the end of the year several Seniors took part in the Junior Senior Play, 'Sadie of the U S A ' On April 24th the Seniors were guests at a very lovely banquet and prom After struggling through many tests we started Senior week Finally we marched down the aisle to the tune of the 'Triumphal March' and received our diplomas We will always be grateful to our parents for providing us with the opportunity to receive a high school education and to our teachers for the patience and consideration they have shown throughout the years we were with them Our faith in our homes and our school is the basis of the confidence with which we face the future v I . Green hy lis- consin In September the Freshmen were initiated into Berthoud mgh School The Seniors were in charge of the initiation The Freshmen wore baby clothes, carried their books in a pall and brought five suckers each for the seniors Bach Ireshaan was requested to bring or find some object in town such as a dress form, false teeth, and high button shoes. It made the Treshaen feel they were more like high school students Irlday evening a Presb- aen reception was given by the Seniors The Bophomores de- corated the Ulllilil in green and white the freshen class colors and the Juniors served cake and punch A Christmas program was held on Deceaber 19 in the audl torlum llsie Buehler Ind charge of the program, which in eluded readings and music by the students and teachers Gifts were presented to the clase sponsors by the president 1 each class A gift was also presented to Ira Dean by Betty Oberdlck from the My Club After the program a picnic lunch and dance was enjoyed by everyone in the gyanaslun This year the students decided they wanted new stage curtains for the auditorium The Seniors started raising money with a turkey raffle which was held on Joveaber 25 The Juniors hd a box social on 'ovenber 26 and later the Musto Club held a dance The Sophomores put on four one-act plays which drew a large crowd Sigma Club n Valentine Sweet- heart dance on lebruary 13 after the orte and Berthoud basketball gene Candidates for queen were chosen from each class They were Dee Hamel senior, Mildred Buehler Junior: Virginia Gerard, Sophomore lary Illen lvnns, freshnan, Velda Sterkel eighth grade, and Shirley Schlelger Seventh grade Shirley Schleiger had the honor of being elected queen and Jlnnie Krieger was king A grand march was held toward the latter part of the evening Derthoud speech students exchanged programs with Lyons and Mead The program consisted of a one-act play, entitled 'Leave It to the Seniors' llllic by the quartet and a piano and accordlan duet by Arloa and llsle Lyons and lead also presented return programs here The students of the Latin class enjoyed working on tlmlr banquet, which was glvsn larch 6 at the home ol bleu Carroll The Juniors and Benlors worked hard at rehearsals on their two plays The first play was lllht hppened to Unclsli and the second play, 'Sadie of the U S.A ' Our final social activity ot the school year was the Junior Senior banquet and px-om The Juniors put in a lot of work preparing for the event and everyone had an enjoyable eg' . 2' o' H: o',e 9 . .iii 2. ,a 5 . MUSIC ACTIVITIES Starting the new school year music classes were held in the new music roon The old art room became the center of much laughter, noi e and music Strange noises were heard and weird shrieks became part of the routine as a band was started for the first time in several years This year was devoted to instruction Next year the band will probab- ly make its first appearance The chorus was made up of four d1ViBlOBS sextette Sue Deshler, Bose Lee Schleiger, Wlsie Buehlen Ruth Ostermiller, Mary Ann Ostermiller, and Vildred Hahn trio Mildred Hahn Mary Ann Ostermiller, and Ruth Ostermiller quartette Bob Garner, Niel Kiehn Dick Stotts and Lowell Duvall The group began work on the Christmas program he high sckool's part of the program was as follows 'Good Will to ben,' mixed chorus 'Ave Marxa ' Dick Stotts 'Silent Night ' trio 'O Holy Night ' Mildred Hahn 'Birthday of a King ' mixed chorus, 'Light of Bethlehem,' trio 'Jubelate,' The boys' quartette appeared at the lather Son banquet and at assembly programs given in Iyons and Yead The girls' trio appeared between cts of the Junior Senior play and during the Christmas program The boys' quartette and the girls' trio have had the honor of appe ring on the Berthoud Commun1ty program in Greeley over Station KFKA The boys received the name of the 'Fbur Gigalos W The students and teachers listened t the progr m oxer the public address system and many ofthe classes had portable radios playing at the same time Many post cards were sent in to the station complimenting the different groups Some of the numbers used on the program were 'Near Yu ' 'Low 1S the Hour,' 'Margie ' and 'Pagan Love Song ' sung by the trio kildred Hwhn's solos included 'lbur Leaf Clover ' 'how Soon,' 'Dawn of Tomorrow,' and several other numbers The boys sang 'Who Did ' 'Stars of the Summer Night,' and 'Kentucky Babe' on their first appe rance and 'Anchors Away,' 'Carol1ne,' and the 'Quilting Party' on their second show Neil Kiehn did the solos for the group He chose 'Serenade of the Bella' 'I CanW Give You Anything But Love,' and 'Ol' Ran River ' Arloa Wblpole has been the accompanist for the music groups during her four years in high school She will be greatly H1SS6d next ye r I ' lo , s , . . . .
