We remanber you as that wonderful speech and Ehg- lish teacher we had in '56--the one who gave us all those themes to write, the one who directed our Junior class play and worried himself into a case of nerves at curtain time, and as the Dranatics Club sponsor. We remember, too, your :Lnfornality outside of the class- room and your friendliness and consideration toward others. Most of all, you gave ue a new and broader outlook on life and learning. We hereby thankfully dedicate the '58 Ursa Annus to you, Hr. Taylor. Z To our first teachers who started us on the road Our First Grade Teacher Mrs . Captain to education. A badge invisible I saw upon each teacher's breast-- An emblem of the patience with which each of them was bless'd. And jewel-studded crown of love for all the children there Was symbol of the devotion born in teachers ev'rywhere. Our Second Grade Teacher Mrs, Rehmann A SPECLAL THANK YCU To our Mothers and Fathers, whose interests have always been for our improvement, whose unfailing love has strengthened us, and whose untold sacrifices have made these school years possible. JUNIOR BAND SENIOR BAND ACTIVITIES The Senior Concert and Marching Band is composed of 76 students in grades 9 through 12. The Band is very active during the year and plays a major engagement almost every week. Three formal concerts are presented each year. They are the Christmas and Mid-H-Jinter Concerts, which are done jointly with the Choir, and the main event of each year--the Formal Spring Concert--this year coming on Friday, May 9. In addition, the Band marches and perfoms at the half-time of all home football and basketball games. Daring our years in the Band, this senior class can look back to many happy moments. We were the last group to play in Glenwood when the District Music Fes- tival was one large affair. Other memorable occasions are the Navy Band Concert in Wahpeton, the University of Minnesota football game, the concert in the St. Paul Auditorium for the State School Board Association, the tour of our State Capitol and meeting the Governor, and the mam' weekly summer concerts in Bertha and Hewitt. Many seniors will continue to play with the Band through the summer months and will march in the Minneapolis Aquatennial Parade in July. There are 22 graduating seniors who have played a total of 95 years with the Band. e 3' V Y-, - or-' Row 1: G. Johnston, J. Mclntire, V. Kelley, L. Engelmann, M. Haase, A. Kimber, L. Zaske, J. When one ofthe Pope! boys went out to kill an old skunk and shot Paw Fry, the Fry family was so in- sulted they started a feud that was one dt!! longest in the history of the hills. Rosiebelle Fry QLuel1a Scofield! vas the leader of the feud. The problem was to get her to stop shooting Popoffs longenongh for the Traveling Preacher Cbuane Hosherl to do his yearly marrying. In the process, Rosiebelle got a proposal with the aid cf ahatchet at the throat of Willy Hornhonker Q-Ierole Speckeenl. This stirred Rosiebelle to such heights that she took off to kill another Popoff. Haw Fry Uanice ltlsslingl took a love potion and ended up e aged to Pappy Popoff CKent Millegg. This seemed like a solution until Rosie- belle broke it up. The play ended with a 'marrying scene' in which even Rosiebelle ends up with a Popoff boy. Solos in the play were sung by Kathryn Cornelland Lnella Scofield. Kiss Ann Janes wrote the original music for these songs. A song and dance W the whole cast Chper of Pins! closed the show with everyone all set to 'get hitched. The smell of perfume, and of tonic on hair, Was easily noticed, everywhere. The girls were arrayed in fomals of net, The boys, in their suits, looked far better yet. Peas and potatoesg baked han and buns, Ice cream and wafers: on the menu. Yum! Yun! During the banquet, a program was held. First nudaer--a singer, Miss Kathryn Cornell. Cheryl Christiansen, our talented pianist, was next, She was dressed with dignity, but played with zest lext the class will and the prophecy were heard, By two Seniors, Ellen Haase and Andrey Leeseburg Speeches were given by three of the teachers, The above were the more important features. Then the banquet was over, And we were all pardoned, To enter the enchanting, Exotic Chinese Gardens. An archway strewn with roses, led us into a 'Chinese Garden. The dancers were surrounded with Chinese syrbolsg lanterns overhead and painted figures on all sides. In one corner stood a beau- tiful American beauty rose bush, accented by a spotlight. Pink and silver streamers adorned the stage and the 'make-believe' arch. After dancing to Dick Thomas' music, we left with a happy and light-hearted feeling, knowing that our Junior-Senior Prom, 'Chinese Gardens, was a great success.
