I CC' 1' re' k...J-oo FJJ School ' What a sensational thrlll 1S felt by ev ry young boy or glrl he flrSt enters a schoolroom They know thls step means happy days, good t1m6S, and lots of never to be forgotten experlences Thls 1S what school meant to seventeen 9XC1tSd glrls and boys eleven years ago Why, we were start1ng our career' Wach year were determlned to strlve a llttle harder, put forth a more earnest effort to reach our goal, and patiently awalt the day when we would become graduates of Berryvlll Hlgh School Together ln the flrst grade, Josephlne Cart r, fllzabeth More land, Lynwood Wh86lSP,wl1ZHbSth Levl, Hllda McDonald,L1ll1an Deavers, Helen Kackley, Robert Hook r, Ellzabeth Hereford, Herbert Duk ,Marge ret Simpson, Ann Russell, Ellzabeth Ann Jones, Clara Barthel, Lary Ellzabeth Pifer, Mary Polhamus, Norma Trenary, Robert Houghton, Buddy Levl, and Jlmmy Dick Iden started on thls 6XC1f1Hg adventure through the grades A tlngle of Joy was felt ln each of our hearts as we struggled wlth our read1n', 'r1t1n', and 'rithmetlc How eager each was to b the flrst to be called on to reclte the 'A'B'C'snor to count from one to a hundred by two's The second grade brought us no new pupils In the third, Davld Chllds, from Summlt Polnt, in the fourth, Annls Foltz, from Core, V1rg1n1a, Gloria Anne Longerbeam, Mllburn Lloyd, and Shlrlev Lickey from Berryvllle were welcomed 1nto the class The flfth grade brought Audrey Cheshlre from Keyser,West V1rg1n D C , Zachary Whlte from Port Republlc, Vlrglnla, Albert Vorous, and Allen Emmart from Berryvllle Our class the fOllOWlHg year gladly welcomed flve more pupils who soon became our frlends Into our mldst came Frances and John Wolfe from West Vlrglnia, Mary Cochran from Boyce, D1Ckie Potts, Charles Clevenger, and Marshall Bryant from Berryvllle To our number in the seventh grade, were added Virglnia Lindsay from Boyce, Laura Drury from Charlestown, West Vlrvlnla, Camllle Wisecarver and Bertha McF1llen from Berryvllle The class roll was now forty one and we were Just b glnning to realize that thls would be our last year 1n the elementary grades We would soon be ln high school' High School' My how 1mportant Ch1S word seemed in the seventh grade' But soon another word seemed more lmportant NOh, o be a Senior,W we would say We have enjoyed our high school days to the fullest extent Our first year in these new surroundlngs brought us Margaret Johnson,from Summit Point, Tom Stouvh from Handley High School in Winchester, and Lawrence Longerbeam from Plne Grove School In our second and thlrd years flve students were added Gretta Ogden from Middletown Hlgh School, Beatrlx Russell from Warrenton, Dorothea Rocap from Atlantlc Clty Hlgh School, Carl Pitta from Blue mont, Clayton Stlckel and Flwood H 1POHlMuS, from Berryvllle At this polnt we were thlnklng of our Senlor year Jhy, w would soon be really important people in the Berryvllle High School' But, in the meantime, we were getting a lot of fun out of belng Jun 1ors We began to take our places wlth Seniors 1n the typing room The secrets of ShOPth8HG curls and lines were opened to us We began to take our share of publishing the 'Beacon' and we even voted on the Senior 'Who's Who' More than anythlng else, we engoyed entertaining the Seniors at the Junior Senior prom And now' Now we have reached our long sought for goal Our last year has brought us Rosa Pltta from Bluemont, and Julius White from Berryvllle Cont nued on pa S 73 21 f AX I K - l Ill ' ' e ,' as . , . .
