During her decade at Berryton High, Mrs. Skaggs has been the friend and advisor of the whole student body. She has helped us to keep our morals and aims high. She was always ready to help us when we were in trouble or to sympa- thize when we felt blue. This, Mrs. Skaggs, is a public recognition of our admiration and deep respect for you. It, with the help of its wonderful faculty, made our four years at Berryton successful and happy ones. In September of 1950 fifteen green freshmen, six girls and nine boys, enrolled at Berryton High. Our sponsor, Mr. Lawrence Butler, helped us elect the follow- ing class officers: Kenneth Flohrschutz, president, Doris Ecord, vice-president, Ted Worthington, secretary, Clifford Nichols, treasurer, Darlene Swallow, stu- dent council, Rodney Ramsey, student council, Milo Fultz, reporter. The highlights of the year were our initiation as full-pledged buffaloes, our class parties, and the winning of the state championship by our baseball team. In the fall of 1951 Berryton High was again honored to enroll the class of 54 . We lost a member of our class, Mary Heim, but were very happy to gain John Grame. Our sponsor for our sophomore year was Mr. Thomas Morris, We elected the following officers: Doris Ecord, president, Darlene Swallow, vice-president, Clifford Nichols, secretary, Kenneth Flohrschutz, treasurer, Nancy Middleton, student council, Ted Worthington, student council, Milo Fultz, reporter. I The activities for our sophomore year were much the same as the freshman year which included our class parties and another trip to Peabody. Another school term rolled around finding the class of 54 ready. During the last year we lost two of our members Bobbie Crockett and Jerry Bean but gained Beverly Bowen. Our class enrollment then numbered fourteen, five girls and nine boys. Our sponsor, Mrs. Pugh, helped us elect the following officers: Darlene Swallow, president, Kenneth Flohrschutz, vice-president, Beverly Bowen, secretary, Doris Ecord, treasurer, Velata Langley, student council, Milo Fultz, student council, John Grame, reporter. During the middle of the school year Mrs. Martha Meinhardt replaced Mrs. Pugh as our sponsor. The important events of our Junior year were our class play, Let Me Out of Here , carried out in the Hep Cat theme. The small but mighty class of 54 returned again. This time with only thirteen members caused by the loss of Rodney Ramsey. Later in the fall we lost another classmate, Velata Langley. Mr. Jerry Reichart was chosen to be our senior sponsor. The dignified seniors elected the following officers: Doris Ecord, president, John Grame, vice-president, Beverly Bowen, secretary, Kenneth Flohrschutz, treasurer, Darlene Swallow, student council, Milo Fultz, student council. Important happenings during the year were freshman initiation, homecom- ing, paper drives, pictures taken at Wichers, history studying, slumber parties, our class play Star Crazy , the publishing of the Breeze, the editing of the annual, the banquet in our honor held at the Kansas Hotel carried out in the theme of Tulip Time in Holland , our sneak, baccalaureate, and com- mencement. Our class flower is the red rose, our class colors are red and white, our motto is: The poorest way to face life is to face it with a sneer. This concludes our four happy high school years which is really only the beginning.
