CLASS HISTORY Just twelve short years ago we, the Senior Class of 1947, walked into the rooms of Mrs. Sharpe and Miss Barnhardt and demanded an education. Of the 55 first graders that entered school here, only 11 completed twelve full years at Berryhill. Our stay in grammar school was short but industrious. Each year someone new entered our class and someone else departed to other places. When we reached the eighth. grade, we learned that the twelfth grade had been added and that the eighth was still grammar school. Finally we reached high school, and our class officers for the Fresh- man year were: Bill McGinn, President, Benny Holder, Vice-President: Juanita Smith, Secretary, and Betty Williams, Treasurer. In our Sophomore year we had an enrollment of 62 members. Mr. Dan S. Davis had become our principal after the death of Mr. W. D. Loy, our former principal. That year we were treated to several parties, and we began taking part in the school athletic program. The class officers for our second year in high school were: Benny Holder, Presi- dent, Charles McGinnis, Vice-President, Virginia Foust, Secretary, and Juanita Smith, Treasurer. Our third year, which was our Junior year, was really filled with steady activity. The most important event of the year was the Junior- Senior Banquet. We had several members that year that made the high school baseball and basketball teams. This year for our class officers we had Pete Sloan as President, Benny Holder, Vice-President, Juanita Smith, Secretary, and Wesley Propst, Treasurer. Our Senior year has really been one of new experiences and excite- ment. We published our high school annual, the LINK AND CHAIN. Many people said the annual this year was the biggest and best that has been published at Berryhill. We thoroughly enjoyed the banquet in which the Juniors outdid themselves to put on for us. Our officers this year were Charles McGinnis, President, Sara McCorkle, Vice-President, Caro- lyn Wentz, Secretary, and Wesley Propst, Treasurer. We shall always be grateful to our parents for making it possible for us to receive an education, and to our teachers for showing such patience throughout the years we have been at Berryhill. Our faith in our homes and school is the foundation of the confidence with which we face the future. ' CHARLES MCGINNIS, Class Hisfnmafiz. CLASS PUEM Old Berryhill, we love you, with your long spacious halls, The winding stairs from place to place, your sunny-tinted walls, Your grounds so smartly shrubbed, lawns glistening with the dew-- That's why we beam with pride at the very thoughts of you. We think of you, dear Berryhill, where folks have come and gone, And made a great success in life among the surging throng. Success, the thing we seek our future life to plan, We'll find at you, Old Berryhill, if we'll but make a stand. We'll miss you, dear Old Berryhill, when we've outgrown your bounds, Our faculty and friends too, that we've met upon your grounds. The place in life we fill depends on what we've learned with you, So, Berryhill, we are glad to say we're mighty proud of you! ROBERT MCSWAIN, Class Poet. Page Thirteen
