Into my helicopter I get, and go out into the wild blue yonder, out over the well cultivated fields of Mecklenburg County. Down below I recognize that old familiar walk of Tom Spratt, a fellow classmate. My mind wanders back five years ago when we were together at Berryhill with not a worry in the world. I decide to land and chat with him just for old times' sake. Tom has been around a good bit and seems to know the fate of some of the other school chums. He tells me his competitors in the farming industry are Charles Thomas, Johnny Hawfield and Joe Brown. The law firm of J. C. Peele and Charles McGee has just completed a business transaction for the Neal Baker Hosiery Mill. The able secre- taries, Margie Price, Sara McCorkle, and Kathleen Griffith of the Peele- McGee law firm, were of much help in completing this deal. Judy Frazier has just won the title of Miss North Carolina in the contest sponsored by the Sporting Goods Company of Benny Holder. The crowning of Miss North Carolina took place in Bill McGinn's Night Club, where Robert Montgomery and Jean Brown were billed as the guest singers. Jane Hatcher and Doris Greene of the Bell Telephone Company have just been promoted to chief operators. Dewey Mae Jackson, chief dietitian of the Memorial Hospital, reports that Virginia Kerly, Eloise Gardner, and Faye Pressley are the most capable nurses on the staff. Martha Davenport, pianist, and Doris Hovis, concert singer, flew to California in a plane piloted by Earl Black and Co-pilot Bill Pruette to give a concert on the West Coast. Peggy Robinson and Virginia Mattox are models for the New York clothing firm of Charles Wamsley. Leon Liles is now playing football for the Chicago Bears. Vincent Deshields has just won the title of Lucky Deshields -in a hell-driving contest at the Southern States Fairground. Carolyn Wentz is the able director of the new State Program of Christian Association. The undertaking firm of Bill Bigham has moved into its beautiful new building which was constructed by the architectural firm of Harvey Criminger. The paintings of Thelma Woods are on exhibit in Mint Museum. Bobby McSwain is now a missionary in Alaska. Charlotte's milk supply is much improved since the new dairies of Charles McGinnis and Campbell Choate have begun production and dis- tribution. Juanita Crump, radio announcer, has been added to the staff of WBT. The successful housewife, Velma Williams, visits regularly the pro- gressive beauty shop of Betty McCorkle. Bobbie Courtney is hostess for Eastern Air Lines. In checking over the roster of the Business Woman's Club, I find Becky Helms, Doris Toole, Elizabeth Nelson, Jane Smith, and Betty Jean Rape are successfully engaged in their various professions for business firms throughout Charlotte. Now that I have heard again of my old classmates, I must again take to my helicopter and get back to my business, hoping to meet again these classmates at some future date. WESLEY PROPST, Class Prophet. Page Twelve CLASS HISTORY Just twelve short years ago we, the Senior Class of 1947, walked into the rooms of Mrs. Sharpe and Miss Barnhardt and demanded an education. Of the 55 first graders that entered school here, only 11 completed twelve full years at Berryhill. Our stay in grammar school was short but industrious. Each year someone new entered our class and someone else departed to other places. When we reached the eighth. grade, we learned that the twelfth grade had been added and that the eighth was still grammar school. Finally we reached high school, and our class officers for the Fresh- man year were: Bill McGinn, President, Benny Holder, Vice-President: Juanita Smith, Secretary, and Betty Williams, Treasurer. In our Sophomore year we had an enrollment of 62 members. Mr. Dan S. Davis had become our principal after the death of Mr. W. D. Loy, our former principal. That year we were treated to several parties, and we began taking part in the school athletic program. The class officers for our second year in high school were: Benny Holder, Presi- dent, Charles McGinnis, Vice-President, Virginia Foust, Secretary, and Juanita Smith, Treasurer. Our third year, which was our Junior year, was really filled with steady activity. The most important event of the year was the Junior- Senior Banquet. We had several members that year that made the high school baseball and basketball teams. This year for our class officers we had Pete Sloan as President, Benny Holder, Vice-President, Juanita Smith, Secretary, and Wesley Propst, Treasurer. Our Senior year has really been one of new experiences and excite- ment. We published our high school annual, the LINK AND CHAIN. Many people said the annual this year was the biggest and best that has been published at Berryhill. We thoroughly enjoyed the banquet in which the Juniors outdid themselves to put on for us. Our officers this year were Charles McGinnis, President, Sara McCorkle, Vice-President, Caro- lyn Wentz, Secretary, and Wesley Propst, Treasurer. We shall always be grateful to our parents for making it possible for us to receive an education, and to our teachers for showing such patience throughout the years we have been at Berryhill. Our faith in our homes and school is the foundation of the confidence with which we face the future. ' CHARLES MCGINNIS, Class Hisfnmafiz. CLASS PUEM Old Berryhill, we love you, with your long spacious halls, The winding stairs from place to place, your sunny-tinted walls, Your grounds so smartly shrubbed, lawns glistening with the dew-- That's why we beam with pride at the very thoughts of you. We think of you, dear Berryhill, where folks have come and gone, And made a great success in life among the surging throng. Success, the thing we seek our future life to plan, We'll find at you, Old Berryhill, if we'll but make a stand. We'll miss you, dear Old Berryhill, when we've outgrown your bounds, Our faculty and friends too, that we've met upon your grounds. The place in life we fill depends on what we've learned with you, So, Berryhill, we are glad to say we're mighty proud of you! ROBERT MCSWAIN, Class Poet.
