CLASS HISTUHY In the fall of 1931 there entered into this school a group of boys and girls who were to make up the graduating class of 1942. We, the Senior Class of Berryhill, were that group. From the day we started to grammar school and all the way through high school, we have been taught one main thing-that is, cooperation, cooperation with our classmates and teachers. Our first few years in grammar school were very easy but as time went on they began to get harder. We all anxiously awaited our seventh grade examina- tion because we wanted to get into high school as soon as we could. After the examination, there were a few disappointments but those who had their work completed were ready for high schoolf We entered high school as green freshmen. As freshmen do. we really lived up to our name. For a week or more we really had a time getting straight- ened out. Fourteen students from Steele Creek School joined us that year. By watching our upperclassmen we began to get lined up and soon we really felt like a part of the school. Our class oflicers for that year were: Esther Mae Grier, President: C. W, Smith, Vice-President: Orville Thompson, Secretary and Treasurer. Katherine Loy was the only member of our class to make the basketball squad. We made a good showing in the intramural contests. Our Sophomore year was similar to the Freshman year except that our studies were more advanced and we felt a little bigger. A party was given that year for us by our grademothers. Ten Sophomores made the basketball teams that year. Our Junior year was very hard for some of us. As soon as school began, we started selling magazine subscriptions so that we might nnance the Junior- Senior Banquet. A play was also given by the Junior Class, entitled Aunt Tillie Goes To Town, which was under the able direction of Mrs. Carpenter. Six members of our class were tapped into the Beta Club that year. Our Senior year has been enjoyed very much, because practically all of us took our share of Senior privileges. Out of our graduating class of ninety-eight, twenty-five have completed their eleven years work here. Eleven are members of the Beta Club, Our class officers are Frank Watson, President: Vera Baker, Vice-President: Sarah Walker, Secretary: Dorothy Freeman, Treasurer. The Senior Class is proud to say that we published the second annual in the history of Berryhill. We consider our class a success. Before becoming Seniors, six medals had been received by members of our class for scholastic and athletic achievements. We know that we have not cooperated the best we could in everything, but to you, lVlr. Loy, the faculty, and members of the student body, we leave our gratitude and love. ROBERT OsCAR BYRUM, Class Historian. Page Seventeen QC
