W ..,., .,., .W f .r,..f, Y Class History Most of us were born in the year after the close of World War II. Many were born in other states and in other cities in Alabama where their parents had been engaged in military or defense work. But by August of 1952, eighteen of the Class of 1964 were living in or near Berry Elementary School and proudly entered the first grade classes of Miss Velma Traweek or Mrs. Dorothy Traweek. They were: Tommy Brock, Lunie Dunn, Jerry Frost, James Gray, James Jackson, Ernest Kimbrell, George Madison, Terry Moore, Lynn Olive, Earl Pinion, Elbert Smith, Joe Stough, Jerry Strickland, Johnny Busby, Gayle Dunn, Jean Lollar, Pansy Simmons, and Paulette Simmons. We struggled through reading Tip and Tip and Mitten and finally made it to the second grade. I'm sure we all remember our second year in school as the year of the Big Fire for in March of that year, 1955, our elementary school burned to the ground. We finished out that year in the gym. The next year, our third grade year, some of us crowded into half of what is now the science lab in the high school, and the rest of us had our classes in a drawn-off section in the gym. We enjoyed that year but now that we look back we wonder if Mrs. Thornton and Mrs. Fowler enjoyed it so much! The next year we occupied the new Elementary School and enjoyed three years there. During our first six years, Lynda Collins, Barbara Cooke, Linda Burkett, Milton Pendley, and Jimmy Grey joined us and we traveled on to Junior High School. During our Junior High years we were joined by James Handley, David Thacker, Juanita Bonner, Eltrym Brown, and Glenda Earnest all from Brandon. Three others who joined us from other schools were: Rita Jenkins,Martha Locke, and Billy Willis. In the tenth grade seven more who joined us from Bankston were: Sue Williamson, Suzanne Webb, Ann Cotton, Willard Lowery, Glen Bowles, Kenneth Pendley, and Dale Rosser. Janet Carroll joined us in the eleventh grade from Walker. Presidents of our class have been: Jimmy Grey, seventh and eighth grade: Ernest Kimbrell, ninth grade: Kenneth Pendley, tenth grade: Lynn Olive, eleventh grade: and James Jackson, twelfth grade. Homecoming candidates from our class have been as follows: Jean Lollar, ninth grade: Sue Williamson, tenth grade: Gayle Dunn, eleventh grade: and Glenda Earnest, twelfth grade. We have had two Homecoming Queens from our class, Gayle Dunn, and Glenda Earnest. We have had one Miss Berry , Sue Williamson. We have also had one F.F.A. Sweetheart from our class, Gayle Dunn. Most of the boys in our class have taken part in at least one sport during their years in school. We have had three cheerleaders from our class: Gayle Dunn, Janet Carroll, and Sue Williamson. Speaking in behalf of the entire Senior Class of 1964, I would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to our parents, friends, teachers, and classmates for making our school years so wonderful. We would certainly like to thank our sponsor, Mrs. Dixie Brock, and our principal, Mr. Fred Webster for all that they have done for us down through the years. Juanita Bonner HISTORIAN ll7l V., on . ,. Prophecy I was looking through my H1964 Spotlight and my eyes grew misty with tears as precious memories flooded to my mind. There was Joe Stough who had just finished his course in moon piloting. He was beginning his take-off for his first solo flight. Eltrym Brown is living her life dream as secretary to the President of the United States, James Handley. Suzanne Webb and Ann Cotton have finally come to the conclusion that they can't live without each other so they are now married to twins, from the far-off planet of Pluto. Rita Jenkins is now the head nurse at Jenkins Memorial Hospital in Berry, Alabama. Jimmy Grey has stepped in his father's shoes as the mayor of Berry. There is also a new police force in Berry, the chief is Willard Lowery and his deputy is George Madison. The last I heard from Billy Willis he was a four star general in the Army, and is looking for a promotion soon. Gayle Dunn has just completed a book entitled How to Find a Husband. There is Jean Lollar editor of the Berry Sentinal , one of the largest papers of the nation. Earl Pinion owns a one thousand acre farm in Texas and has six little cowboys. Pansy Simmons has replaced Liz Taylor in Hollywood, why just recently her fan club presented her with her weight in gold. We are happy to announce that Martha Locke is happily married. She and her husband run an insurance firm together. James Gray is now Economics teacher at Berry. Juanita Bonner is kept busy supplying the Berry Manufacturing Company with white fox skins with which they make furs. She raises them on her one- thousand acre farm in Flatwoods. Jerry Frost has run for Governor twice, but he is such a sleepy head until it doesn't look like he will ever become Governor of Alabama. Wake up Jerry. Lynda Burkett now has the nations largest firm of Wig Manufacturing, located in her home-town of Cross Roads, Alabama. Paulette Simmons has just been elected Miss Rocket Ship of 1970. She will be given a free ride to the moon by that famous scientist Tommy Brock. I see Terry Moore as he has finally passed high school bookkeeping fafter only ten yearsj. His motto is Flunk Now and Avoid the Rush. Sue Williamson is a stewardess for Trans-World Airlines. She is very much in love with the pilot, but he prefers Janet Carroll instead, fbelieve it or notj. Barbara Cook just couldn't take Mrs. Cannon's advice to leave the younger generation alone. She is now married to her one and only Qguess whoj. Ernest Kimbrell is now a famous scientist in New York City. Kenneth Pendley is a famous movie director in Hollywood, all his per- formers are actresses. Glenn Bowles is now a famous professional football player. Glenda Eamest is now employed at Reliance Steel as the head secretary. Dale Rosser has just been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the best selling book of the year. Elbert Smith now heads the Republican Party for Alabama. Johnny Busby is a famous inventor, he has just invented a new automobile called the Buzzmobi1e. Lynn Olive has taken Mr. Webster's place as principal of Berry High School. James Jackson has just recently opened his own speedway in Berry, Alabama. Lunie Dunn now runs one of the largest merchandise stores in Boley. Milton Pendley now has one of the largest mockingbird farms in this part of the country. Jerry Strickland has just completed a famous trip to Mexico on his bicycle. We have all finally discovered the secret of David Thacker's curley hair, it is a toupee. Linda Collins PROPHET Linda, we hear that you are still forever saying I am going to Chicago tomorrow. To the teachers we'd like to say, Thank you in a special way. You have shared our hopes and fears, Over a period of twelve long years. Our lives together is soon past and go ne, And we are soon our on our own. Our life together will come to an end, But we will always be good friends.
