TYPE-A-THON The Future Business Leaders of America sponsored a Type-A-Thon on Friday, February 1 5. All proceeds went toward equipping an indoor playground in the new tower of the Children ' s Hospital. The Type-A-Thon was a state F.B.L.A. project instigated last year at Berry. Contestants were sponsored by students and faculty for a minimum of ten cents per word on a three-minute timed writing. PLAY-OFF GAME After much hard work and a season of 8-2, the Mighty Buccaneers advanced to the first round of the state playoffs. Berry won this right after a convincing Homecoming victory over Minor, 1 4- 0. Although the team showed real talent and aggression, they were not able to overcome the stronghold of powerhouse Jeff Davis, who triumphed over the Bucs, 21 -7. Notwithstanding this bitter play-off disappointment, the team deserved much recognition for their outstanding season. JERSEY RETIRED The Varsity Football team suffered many losses through injuries during the 1 979 season. One of the hardest felt was the loss of senior linebacker Carson Henley, who injured his knee duhng practice. Carson had been a great influence on the team as well as a spiritual leader. For those and other contributions made by him. Coach Finley decided to retire Carson ' s jersey, number thirteen. This was the second time a jersey has been retired at Berry. When the announcement was made at the October 1 2th pep rally, students honored Carson with a standing ovation. 24

HOMECOMING 1979 Homecoming means many things to a Berry student. Everything from doors to automobiles was decorated to show that famous orange, and white Buc spirit. An exciting 1 4-0 Buccaneer victory over the Minor Tigers sent Berry to the State Playoffs and was the culmination of a week of excitement.
