TO ALICE BARNES . . . . . . who personifies the spirit of dedication and the Berry tradition of loyalty and service. Miss Barnes has served Berry for forty-six years. She first came to Mount Berry from her home in Saluda, South Carolina, as a student in 1915, and a year after her graduation in 1918, she returned to the campus to serve as hostess and supervisor in Berry's guest cottages on the Log Cabin Campus. Miss Barnes is a professional in her field, and among those who have praised her hospitality, her beautiful table and her excellent food have been the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ford, the famous aviatrix Amelia Earhart, the gracious Mrs. Emily V. Hammond and countless other Well known friends of Berry. Alice Barnes has inspired and stimulated hun- dreds of Berry College women who have gained their work experience in the guest cottages, and the fortunate students who have sat down to a meal prepared by Miss Barnes and her girls can attest to her culinary talents. Out of a deep respect for her and her service to Berry, the editors and staff members of Cabin Log 1965 dedicate this book to Alice Barnes.
