. . in the way we spend our leisure The ancient Socrates believed there ought to be leisure in life so men would have time to think. Then, there were thinkers and no leisure . . . now, leisure abounds and there are no thinkers. We go instead-to Valhalla to drink and be merry, to the television set in the dormitory for a Weekend of Napoleon Solo and old movies, to the local hangout, or anywhere to escape. Why don't we know what to do with our leisure? Where are the simple joys of youth?

1n the tradltions of our founder Martha Berry was not a saint as she has some- times been pictured, but a southern lady who saw a need and answered it with action. She furnished an opportunity for an education to many . . . and you and I have benefited from it. She had definite ideas about education-a three- fold education to enlighten the mind, to enrich the soul and to strengthen the body. Hers were practical ideas, and although the symbols may have changed, Martha Berry's concept is time- less and continues to live and grow.
