In 1985-86, like all the other years, not only were our school buildings maintained in top condition, but also, our campus grounds were kept up in excellent shape. They worked hard to keep our grounds mowed, lines on our track and football field, baseball fields are also ready for our teams to play their games. The outside of our schools is in great shape. Its pleasant to look at and they did really a nice job. Our thanks to the grounds keepers. Keep up the good work! 10 JANITORS Corey takes time to smile for the camera. Yes, here are the people who help to keep our great school in fine condition. With outstanding dedication, they have continued to keep our school clean, fresh, and pleasant looking. We think of the dedication, determination, and strong desire that we have had to make us excel in our own specialties. As we set out for a new horizon, remember it is the responsibility of each individual to use truth in unlocking the door to his purpose in life. Let us look upon our education as a golden key to the cells of our minds. Each key opens one door, only to reveal many locked ones. We have had our ups and our downs, periods of laughter and periods of frowns. These times have helped to build our integrity. Class of 1986, it has been an honor and a great pleasure to be your President. I wish you the best of luck in your future. Remember, the darkest hour is just before the dawn. Love you, Shlonda Burton Senior Class President LEADERS OF THE PACK SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Angie Oorbeck, Treasurer, Kerri Petzke, Vice President, Shlonda Burton, President, and Sheri Maruk, Secretary Sponsors: Mr. 'King'' Phillips, and Mr. King 18 Angie Oorbeck is keeping her well tuned eye on Steve Gaul. How true! The seniors always seem to be at their best. As seniors. Graduation Day seems to approach slowly at first, but then around March or April the most wanted day of the year approaches quite quickly. Plus, with the thoughts in our minds of homecoming, Prom, Class Night, and Graduation, this year should be a most memorable one! 19 Steve Tollas says, Are you taking my picture? TRUE FACES Michelle Kampe strives for another top finish for the cross-country team. One of the major milestones of seniors during the year is the end of the first semester. Seniors take exams hoping they won't have to take second semester exams. During the second semester, the pulse quickens and time flies by so quickly that by the time they gather their wits, it is graduation day!! 21 Tod McMillen searches through his locker desperately for his Physics book. The Junior Class has had some eventful times: In third, fourth, and fifth grade we were young, little, crazy kids who were pleased with different activities each day of the week. We had no worries except when the next fifth grade bakesale was to be held. Next we move on to the Middle School. Now you had seven different teachers to gt along with and seven different classes to attend. It wasn't all study and hard work though. With dances, skating parties, teen-nights, and assemblys we kept pretty busy. Now we are here, here in Berrien Springs High. Who'd ever thought our Junior class would take first in the floats this year. Our Glue Factory Machine brought an end to River Valley's hopes of winning as we killed them 28-0 on our Homecoming night. Everything we have all worked hard for, for 12 years, will prove to be a reality not a dream as we test our capabilities and morals towards each other next year. (OUR SENIOR YEAR!) As kindergarteners at Mars Elementary, our biggest concern was with being the one allowed to pull the milk wagon. The three years we spent in Sylvester were characterized by Sylvester Singers, Vocalaires, cat's cradle , cooties , and cherry drops off the bars on the playground. We were the first class to miss the fifth grade trips to Greenfield Village and the Ice Capades. In the 1981-82 school year, we entered the Middle School and were half-way through our school careers. In eighth grade, the play, Charlotte's Web , and the trip to Marriott's were highlights of the year. High School was clearly another big change; we were again at the bottom of the ladder, but fast on our way to the top. Our class athletes and scholars are beginning to show, and we're becoming our own separate people . . . together. The Rocks got off to a slow start with a loss to the Coloma Comets. The Rocks then evened their record at 1-1 pounding the Mustangs from River Valley, 7-1. The next victim at home was Lake-shore, where the Shamrocks won a thriller 3-2. Edwards-burg knocked off the Rocks scoring 6 unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth with 2 outs, evening their record at 2-2. The Rocks suffered a loss at the hands of a strong Branywine Bobcat team, 18-7. The Rocks punished the Mustangs again at home winning 7-3. The Junior Rocks then split a twin bill at hme against Bridgeman winning the first 6-5, and losing the night cap 12-1. Brandwine again defeated the little Rocks 12-2 in the rain at the Bobcats home field. The Shamrocks finished the season thumping Lakeshore 10-6 leaving the rocks with .500 — Tim Sunday 66 GIRL'S VARSITY SOFTBALL Front row: Rachelle Frantz, Brandy Brewer, Amy Kesterke. The main purpose of the Council was to represent the student body, and coordinate some of their activities. The Council started off the year by initiating the new freshman representatives. From there, they worked hard to put on a great Homecoming for the football team. The Council also held the second annual In School Dance with the profit going to James Downs to fight Diabetes. The other large event was the annual Blood Drive. The Drive ran smooth and over 100 units of blood were obtained. The Council also gave the school newspaper $50 dollars so they could have color in the Christmas issue. And thanks to good Junior leadership, the dress code was changed so that the students could wear shorts. The sponsor of the Student Council was Tom Phillips. He has been the sponsor of the Council for 19 years. Dan Schultz Student Council President STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS Front Row: Nicol Whitney, Lynda Matlock, Kim Williams, Amy Bowser, Traci Jones. Mrs. Johnson is sponsoring the club because she enjoys helping the students. School faculty member Miss Jill McConnell; is also sponsoring the club. The Spanish Club did various activities throughout this school year. They included a beach party, bowling and selling Shamrock license plates. The money they raised went to sponsor their beach party, a bowling outing, and was designed to create group and school spirit. They did a car wash to involve the community in their money raising.
