STILL GROOVY Can you imagine that the rather short distinguished-looking gentleman wearing glasses and a three-piece suit was once a Groovy Teacher in the eyes of B.S.H.S. students? He was groovy in the eyes of his peers as well, being named the Outstanding Young Educator for the 1966-67 school year. His groovy adventures began as a young boy when he arrived in Michigan a short time before his 12th birthday. He was impressed by Lake Michigan. Having lived in Missouri, he hadn't known there was a lake you couldn't see across. When he started Junior High in Benton Harbor, young girls thought his Missouri accent was cute. The accent may be gone now, but a touch of his Missouri boyhood remains; he is a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. At Benton Harbor H.S., he lettered in cross country and baseball. He attended Lake Michigan Jr. College and played state-ranked doubles in tennis. He completed Undergrad work at WMU and earned his masters in education admin-stration. After serving in the Army, he began his career at B.S.H.S. teaching U.S. History and Government in 1956-59. He was athletic director for 12 years before becoming assistant principal.
