We looked back and remembered the happy times, feeling the rewards of hard work and dedication. At other times we felt all alone, isolated in the midst of a crowd. Our existence was one of constant new beginnings and continuous endings that filled our lives and our memories. It was our year, molded by the vast and diverse character of who we were and had become. 31 WE CARE FOR YOUR FUTURE 24 HOURS A DAY UNITY HOSPITAL JAMESON CHEMICAL COMPANY LTD. BASKETBALL Varsity Cheerleaders are; (front) Pam Hughes, (middle) Julie Olson, Wendy Stone, Heidi Wcin-mann. Julie Carter, (back) Lia Klinkhammer. Thirty-three girls tried out for cheerleading positions on the football and basketball squads. Some of the requirements to be a cheerleader were attending practice twice a week, cheering at all games, and attending all cheerleading competitions and clinics. They also had to paint signs and decorate the locker room before games, plan pep assemblies, and work at concession stands. The cheerleaders attended different camps, competitions and clinics. The football squad brought back a second place in overall competition and the basketball squad the spirit award. Miss Diane Wagner ended her career as cheerleading sponsor to become Mrs. John Hamlin. This year’s varsity team consisted of two freshmen, five sophomores, two juniors, and four seniors. The season started a bit rough, but the younger players began pulling everything together near the end as the team won their last 5 of 6 matches. In our Regionals, the team placed third out of ten teams, which impressed many of the other coaches. All three of the doubles teams reached the semi-finals before losing to tough opponents. This year the tennis team had an outdoor pot-luck dinner to announce the letter-winners. Kent Eshleman was voted Most Improved and Dave Grau was voted Most Valuable. 86 WRESTLING Front Row—C. Knowing that hard work and continuous stress of fundamentals led to an excellent 17-2 season and first place in the Red Arrow Conference, 1 believe that the nucleus of this group of young men will continue to progress and will represent BSHS, the community, their families, and themselves in a way that we will all be proud. This fine group of athletes has shown its desire to excel thru hard work and dedication. This dedication, combined with individual talent and ability should provide a solid foundation for continued success and excellence.
