The 1968-69 Student Council began when President Carol Baker and Secretary Peg Krause attended Tecumseh Wood’s Leadership Camp, where they became aware of the true role that the Council should play. The camp stressed communication and the relationship between the students and teachers. Dr. Weaver of Western Michigan University emphasized that councils, in order to survive, must develop the theory and aim of their council and apply them in every course of action. In the fall the Student Council made the preparations for Homecoming, which included the snake dance, bonfire, parade, election of queens and a king, and was completed with the semiformal dance. Although all the accomplishments of the Council are not known to the student body at large, the year was fairly productive. Basically, the Council was concerned with the consolidation of clubs and obtaining a wider representation of the student body. Besides serving as hall and noon monitors, the Council also aided in the supervision of a new facility, the juke box. In addition, the Student Council aids a deserving senior by awarding a scholarship of $100.
