SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET GIVES RECOGNITION Shown above are the semester honor roll students of all four high school classes with their parents appearing in the background. Dr. Jay H. Mona week, recently retired assistant director of the reactor engineering division of the Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, spoke to the students. Dr. Monaweck emphasized that students about to enter a university will find it to be a place to think. He urged the future college students that their greatest success hinges on development of imagination and logic. The Honors Banquet is the culminating point of our four years of high school scholastic achievement. Students who have worked hard to keep up their grade averages are given formal recognition of their fine accomplishments. John Hoopingarner, Diane LaVanwav, and Pat Schmidt are lighting the candles representing character, leadership, and service while Tom Evans waits to light the candle of scholarship. All the new members received lighted candles to signify their formal admittance to the National Honor Society.

The Senior class inductees were Mark Jasper, Sue Dougan, Judy Pagel, Donna Brunke, Marian Porter, Pam Leatz, Joyce Evans, Doug Brown, Randall Nelson, and Dennis Shaft. Mathias Bayer, a German exchange student, and Dr. Monaweck, a Berrien Springs High School graduate of 1919 and the major speaker of the program, both received honorary membership to the organization. The inductees to the society were chosen on their past performance at Berrien Springs High School. All members have shown strong superiority in character, leadership, service, and scholarship.
