In Dedication to We of the CANOE Staff would like to dedicate the 1965 edition of the CANOE to Mrs. Edna Bender, business education teacher and guidance counselor of Berrien Springs High School. Upon being graduated from Berrien Springs High School, Mrs. Bender entered Western Michigan University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in business education and a minor in mathematics. Upon graduation from Western University, Mrs. Bender immediately began teaching at Berrien Springs High School. After teaching for 14 years, she took a 10-year leave of absence in order to devote her full time to her family. She then returned and has remained in this school system. Mrs. Bender is extremely active in numerous school functions. This is illustrated by the fact that she is supervisor and sponsor of the Lee F. Auble Chapter of the National Honor Society, president of the B. S. E. A., and Senior class sponsor. This year an entirely new class was originated at Berrien Springs High School—that of advanced bookkeeping. Under the supervision of Mrs. Bender, this new class has proven very successful and necessary for all students planning to enter the accounting field. Mrs. Bender takes an active interest in each student she teaches. Her love of her teaching profession is obvious in her attitude toward her students and the school system. Because of her distinct teaching ability and outstanding personality, we dedicate this 1965 edition of the CANOE to Mrs. Edna Bender.
