Foreword The year 'I958 was an eventful one for the students of Berruen Sprungs Hugh School Enrollment reached an all tume hugh of 357 Three new teachers came to Berruen thus year Physucal sfuence and Englush composutuon were added as courses for senuors The Scuence Research Club was organuzed under the supervusuon of Mr John Brawders and the Varsuty Club was reorganuzed wuth the coaches as sponsors The senuor hugh school chour presented the operetta The Purates of Penzance un February under the durectuon of Mr Mauruce Wuldt The football team had a good season and took second place un the Luttle Eught Conference The basketball team wuth Mr Norval Burgett as the new coach hed for furst place un conference play wuth Benton Harbor St John s The team went on to wun the dustruct tutle un the tournaments and then lost un the reguonals The band receuved a furst duvusuon ratung un the dustruct sprung contest un Class B competuton and went on to the state contest at East Lansung for an overnught trup A career day was held un March for the senuor hugh school Men and women re presentung cpproxumately twenty fuve careers talked to the students A general as sembly was held to explaun career day and then students went un groups to hear about the careers un whuch they were unterested For the furst tume thus year three students un the uournalusm class wrote school news for a specual teen age sectuon of the Sunday South Bend Trubune Sprung actuvutues uncluded a band concert March 28 and the chours partucupatuon un the county vocal musuc festuval un Aprul The annual Berruen Relays were spon sored by the Jaycees thus year The banquet and prom were held at the Whutcomb Hotel un St Joseph Muchugan It us hoped that thus Canoe wull be enuoyed by everyone who reads ut and that ut wull guve a complete record of the 1957 58 school year at Berruen Sprungs Hug h School Cathy Bruggs Edutor John Wear, Terry Bender, John Faulkner, Mr. John Brawders, Dr. George E.
