The chorus sang for the Lions' Club in December and also went Christmas caroling. As an assembly program they held a Christmas concert in con- nection with the band. They plan to sing in the county festival and also to hold a concert sometime in the spring. Mr. Wildt, Director .-iz ni' Qi'-Q . f 14 ' 4. Should she abolish homework, stand behind an unpopular teacher, and keep the star basketball player after school for disciplinary reasons? These are only a few of the headaches which confront Pam and her boy friend, Buzz Bailey, who unex- pectedly finds himself doubling as vice principal and home ec teacher, with an om- elette in one hand and a dress pattern in the other. Romance kicks up its lovely heels, too. Who would have guessed that elderly Miss Goodin 'carried a torch' for the con- firmed bachelor, Mr. Harper? Colman Nice, successor to ex-Berrien coach, Bill Mowry, molded a winning combination from his greatly depleted squad and commenced to put his Rocks' ' in their usual first-place position. Berrien ground out an 18-13 victory over Cassopolis for their first outing. Jim Sounart plunged through center with less than a minute to go to win for the Big Green. Hartford was next on the Rocks list and was dumped 8-O as the Rocks con- tinued to cut through the Little 8 roster to the top. Again this year the Rocks forgot that the Coloma-Berrien game is supposed to be a tough one. They romped over the Comets for 14 straight wins with a 39-7 win. St. Johns was victim number 15 as the Little Eight race continued to run normally. The Rocks operated their T-formation to tear up the turf on Filstrup field and gained 476 yeards to turn under the Irish's title bid, 21-7. Victim number 17 was the St. Joseph Ponies. Berrien's relentless Sham- rocks combined a slashing running attack with a pinpoint passing game to roll over the Ponies' heads with a 26-7 victory. The Watervliet Panthers were number 18 on the Rocks' list. The Berrien team plowed them under, 40-13. The Panthers' only touchdown was scored against the reserves. The Decatur-Berrien game was deemed to be the game of the year in Little Eight football. Decatur was outclassed in the first thirty seconds of the ball game as Dick Shafer darted 41 yards to score on the second play from scrim- mage . This 27-7 victory over the Raiders gave the Rocks their fifth Little Eight Championship in six years. For the last game the Rocks stepped out of their class and took on the Buchan- an Bucks on the Bucks' own field. The Rocks were picked by many to top the Bucks, but powerful Buchanan proved too much for Berrien as they won 7-O with a fourth-quarter score. The Rocks placed five men on the All-Conference squad, tackle, Jack Ewaltg backs, Dick Shafer and Kenn McNeely, end, Phil Stroud, and center, Neil Mc- Millen. Berrien also had two men mentioned on the All-State team, Kenn Mc- Neely and Neil McMillen. Berrien Springs had the good fortune to have five of the prettiest cheer- leaders in the state. They were Barbara Utrup, Lana Stroud, Joyce Lolmaugh, Shirley Wregglesworth, and Karen Calay. Two banquets were held for the greatly heralded Shamrocks. One was the annual Bill Athans Banquet at which All-Conference Neil McMillen was pre- sented with the Athans football award. The three coaches, Cole Nice, Ben Korgen, and Jim Griffin held a spaghetti supper in honor of the team. Dick Shafer was elected as team captain and Joyce Lolmaugh was chosen Homecoming Queen and Football Queen.
