She is John Robbins private secretary at his electric fly swatter factory. Did you know that Boh Guettler and Charles Clark are teaching music at New York University? Jack Thierbach is there too, as head football coach. 1 hear that Joe Bulkowski is the new Doctor in Berrien Springs now, and Roy Prillwitz just became the veterinarian for the county. Emil Pollard was just elected president of the American Mdical Association too. Isn’t it swell! I saw Mary Stroud yesterday. She’s running a heauty shop here in San Francisco. It’s right next to Dorothy Carter’s snack bar. Phyllis George stopped by the other day. She certainly looks nice in her Wave uniform. Oh yes, she told me that Evan Ferris and Don Geisler are both officers in the Navy now. 1 didn’t know that Dean Wilson was a salesman. We met at Bill Spaulding’s night club last week. Derrel Watkins was there as an entertainer. Chester Warsco came in later. He owns a huge ranch in Texas now. Have you seen or heard from Nancy Burkett or Edna Mae Zelomer lately? They are housewives, still the same as Mary Ann Fryman and Glenda Manasco aren’t they? I understand Ernest Hildebrand, Victor Banish, Eugene Tilly and Junior Rudowske all have their own farms. What about Bill Pudell, is he a pastor yet? I see Barbara Burdick quite often. She is a buyer for Wymans of South Bend. Charles Harding just made another hit record. Have you heard it yet? It was written by Bill Feather and Paul Koehler and is really selling. Dale Whetstone is president of Model Motors Inc., did you know? John Chandler works for him as head mechanic and Allan Enders is chief electrician. 1 think Dennis Kettlehut also works there in the research department. Ronald Lucas heads the journalism department at Leo Spencers night school, now that he is out of the Navy. By the way, how is your florist shop coming along? You couldn’t have found a better name than “Schmidt’s Floristry.” Well I really have to go now. This nursing profession really keeps you busy. Write soon and tell me all the news. Thicrbach (I.HB), D. Wilson (C), C. Clark (LG), C. Harding (LE). Football spirit and enthusiasm reached great heights this year as our team won the Little Eight Championship for the second consecutive year. The seven conference victories and one non-conference victory brought our school its first unbeaten and untied season, and also the honor of being selected by the Detroit Free Press as the State’s second best Class C team. The team, operating from the single wing, scored 238 points during the season, with the opposition being held to 55. Jack Thierbach, Dale Whetstone, and Glenn Briggs brought many headaches to Little Eight coaches as they planned defenses to stop them. This trio scored 168 points during the season. Their success would certainly have been limited without the blocking back, Roy Prillwitz. No back is better than the seven men he has in front of him. Our fine backfield was due to the stalwarts up front. Harding, Clark, Wilson, Schmall, Lucas, Robbins, and Spaulding blasted the way to our victories. The Ewalt twins, Dale and Dean played key defensive roles in this year’s team. We expect to hear a lot about them next year. Whetstone, Thierbach, Clark, and Dean Ewalt were named to the Allconference team. Charley Clark again had the honor of being selected on the Allstate first team as a guard. From the 32 to 7 victory over Cassopolis in the opener, to the 51 to 0 thumping of Decatur in the finale, our boys played inspired football. However, there were some anxious moments. There was the New Buffalo game (non-conference) where we ran up twenty-seven first downs but only scored one tally in the last minute of the final quarter. In the St. Joseph Catholic game we achieved a 26 point lead and found ourselves hanging on 26 to 19 as the final gun sounded. The Watervliet game had everyone jumping as we went behind for the first time during the season 8 to 7. Here again, the boys would not be defeated and came back, winning the toughest gridiron game of the season with the wedge play. The line was given credit for that 14 to 8 fight. The team elected Jack Thierbach as Captain and Mary Stroud as Football Queen at the end of the football season. At the beginning of the school year the high school library needed to be re-organized. The girls who volunteered to undertake this sizable task are in the above picture. Under the direction of Mr. Douglas Watson, High-school Principal, these students re-organized the school library. Approximately 1,000 new books were ordered, and on arrival were accessioned, processed, classified and catalogued by the student librarians. The magazine section was enlarged considerably and plastic magazine bindings were purchased to preserve the magazines for a longer time. A library of paper-bound books was started. New reserve shelves of reference works in the fields of home economics, industrial arts, mathematics, and in the general sciences were added. 34 F. F. A Row 1: D. Rcisig, L. Smith, P. Hogc. Row 2: L. Receive that has been done. Ring the memories of our last. If we take it all as fun, Every friend will surely come. Row we leave this sheltering mast. Sending hope to all our classmates. Piling joys of our successors. Real memories of our teachers. In our wrongs to other schoolmates, Reed forgive us of departure. Gave us courage of excelsior. Stepping outward from these school gates. Straying in life’s widened turns. E xalted by what we give. Rever stopping what we did. If we’ve always lived to learn, Opportunity doth bid. Ringing always learn to live. Spending God’s time ever stern. 45 William Purdell CLASS MOTTO Live to Learn, Learn to Live COLORS Green and Gold FLOWER Yellow Rose Senior Class Officers for the school year of 52 and 53.
