He has participated on the baseball and basketball teams, serving as captain of the ‘A’ team Mules this past year. Steve has been an honor student, received the Athletic’s Award, and has been an officer in the Future Farmers of America. He plans to attend the University of Missouri at Rolla, majoring in Civil Engineering. Shelby Brown, Secretary of the Beta Club 1975-76, has been an active member of the Beta Club, Pep Club, and Future Homemakers of America. She is an honor student and has been volleyball scorekeepcr for three years. This year Shelby was photographer for THE COT- TON BOLL. She plans to attend Arkansas State Univer- sity this fall. Student of the Year Nominees Each year the Bernie Student Council sponsors an award which goes to an outstanding senior. This is the tenth annual year to have this award presented at Bernie High School. The members of the high school faculty nominate and choose the senior to receive the “Student of the Year” citation. To be eligible for this honor, a student must possess such qualities as: School spirit, depend- ability, leadership, scholarship, and high moral character. 34 DAVID BLEVINS David has been very active in the Future Farmers of America. During the 1975-76 school year, he served as President of the local chapter and Sentinel for Area 13. David also won the Proficiency Award in Agricultural Electrification for Area 13. In past years he has served as local secretary and has been a member of the Dairy Judging Team, Seeds Team, Soils Team, and Meats Team on the local, district, and state levels. David placed 2nd in Public Speaking and 1st in Leadership at FFA Camp in the Summer, 1975. He has won the FFA Scholarship pin, as well as the Scholastic Award for the last three years. David has been a member of Student Council, 4-H, Missouri Boy’s State, and has served as basketball manager for the past 2 years. Pom Port Squad Leads With Enthusiasm A new addition to the organizations at BHS was the Pom Pon Squad. The girls were chosen on a try out basis in the Spring. Not only did the squad travel to the parades with the band, but also performed dance routines at all of the home basketball games. The purpose of the group was to form a nucleus for the cheer- ing section at games and to give more pep and support not only to the team, but to the entire school.
