As each student looks through the pages of this book, let him recall the many memories collected with each passing event. Some students will regret the time spent in classes, the preparation of assignments, and think of the 1968 school year as just another passing year until graduation. Others will recall the year with regret that another year has passed. They will remember the fun they had at ballgames, attending club meetings, preparing for parties, building lasting friendships, accomplishing goals, and fulfilling hopes and dreams. Each class of 1968 holds its special happenings and events that the members of that class share with each other. The freshmen re- member their first year in a strange, new environment. The soph- omores recall their second year in high school with new confidence and look forward to their busy juniors year. The juniors remember the most exciting year in high school, with memories of class rings, their junior play, and the prom. The seniors look upon the passing year with mixed emotions and uncertainty of what graduation will bring for them. These memories and many more have combined to make this a memorable year. With this, the annual staff presents the 1968 COTTON BOLL. Every Day Is Filled with Variety. No day is quite the same for the stu- dents at B.H.S. Assemblies, ballgames, dances, and club activities all add a spice of variety for the students at B. H.S. A music assembly presented by a Woodwind Quintet from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra was presented to the high school students. Karla Hoggard assists by taking absentee slips during seventh hour. Basketball manager, Lee Beckman, helps Tommy Hobgood with a hurt finger. The bulletin board posts daily and coming events and items of interest to teachers and students. Honesty, justice, service, coopera- tion, responsibility, industriousness, humility, and charity . . . these are the objectives of the Beta Club. The Bernie Chapter of the Beta Club has striven to enact these objectives in their various activities. They sold ice cream at noon hour each day in the cafeteria, held their induc- tion in October, and attended a college play. For Christmas, they visited the rest home in Bernie. They paid tribute to the faculty during Teacher Apprecia- tion Week in January. Perhaps the most successful of their fund raising projects was the selling of advertisements for basketball programs. This was the first year that such pro- grams had been printed. The highlight of the year was the Beta dinner and the presentation of a scholar- ship in May. The first picture at left shows the of- ficers for the '67-'68 school year. These pictures show some scenes from the induction ceremony for new members this year. The club used a candlelight ceremony, which was pres- ented before the parents, faculty, and school board. Judy Botsch is shown serving a piece of fruitcake to another member, Kenny Kifer. This cake was sent by the School of the Ozarks in appreciation of the scholarship the Beta's presented to a Bernie graduate, now attending this college. The Beta Club has worked hard this year. This year the members are: First row: Miss Forester, sponsor, Bicky Woods, Marsha Mills, Troy Hartle, Janis Slusher, Judy Botschy Susan Steuver, and Kenny Kifer. The Student Council Promoted Cooperation between Students and Teachers This year the Student Council has kept busy with their various projects. The Student Council sponsored the annual Miss B.H.S. contest held this year. The Student Council also co-sponsored the Christmas Dance. Flowers were bought by the club for parents of the basketball players and cheerleaders that were pre- sented to them at the Homecoming. The three pictures at the left show a meeting while in session. Each Homemaker Strives Renea Quinn, F. H.A. president, and Sharon Hampton, regional vice-president, worked hard to make this year a success. This year the F.H.A. has been very busy. To start the year off right the an- nual bunking party was held. This event turned out to be one of the highlights of the year. The F.H.A. offers a girl the qualities and skills essential to homemaking. To qualify for membership a girl must be taking or have taken Home Economics for one year. The three pictures at the top of the page are scenes from the bunking party. All the girls really enjoyed themselves. At right is a picture of the F.H.A. float which was entered in several parades. The two lower pictures show a typical meeting while in session. The F.F.A. Was Progressive The F.F.A. was an active club this year. At the beginning of the school year the members built a float which was entered in several of the parades. In November the annual Barn- warming was held. A regional Bam warming, which was attended by several schools in this area was also held. The club was responsible for running the popcorn machine at all the bas- ketball home games.
