W' ff t STARR DOROTHEA SPANN Starr Dorothea Spann, young, gifted, cmd beautiful, is the only teenage member of OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT ASSN. Although very young, Starr, is a loyal and hardworking member. She possesses a ready smile and portrays a cooperative willingness that is rare in many of her seniors. Armed with a keen sense of direction, she not only knows where she is going in terms of life's goals, but is positive about how she will reach them. Starr is admired by older adults, respected by her peers, trusted by those who are younger, and loved by her whole family. A native of Queens County, Starr was born in Queens County Hospital tGeneraD one decade and four years ago. Her parents are Clarence Spann and Delores Spann Johnson. She is an only child but does not suffer because of the closeness that exist between her and the children of her aunts and uncles. Education for Starr began in Iamaica's St. Peter Claver Academy First Grade Class in the Fall of 1970. She transferred to Incarnation Catholic School when she was Second Grade. Today she is a serious .student att Grace Lutheran Day School where she has completed her third year as a good student. She is a member of the Grace Lutheran's Basketball and Volleyball teams. CS4tarr will enter Martin Luther High School in Septemberj Starr's interest, activities and experiences reflect a wide range of in- volvement, some of which started very early. At age four she was involved with modeling African designed fabrics and fashion for a project sponsored by the Ambassador of Africa's Togo. She appeared as a model at many places including the Caravan Art Gallery, and Harvard University. Pictures of Starr modeling these special African garmentsl appeared in many publications, including the Amsterdam News, Long Island Press, and The New York Times. Widely traveled, Starr has been to the Caribbean Iamaica, W.I.l, South- ern U.S. tPlorida's Disney World and South Carolinal, Midwestern U.S. tKen- tucky and Chicago? and Canada. In l974 she toured Congress in Washington, D.C. at which time she met and talked with many U.S. Congressmen. She was present when Mary Bethume's Statue was erected in Washington, D.C. and a year later she visited Bethune-Cookman College in Florida during ln- ternational Women's Year. Something Speclall'
