In the Amityville Tourna- ment, in which Berner placed first. 3 sen- iors Don Ophals, Matt Doherty. and Fred Dunau won their matches as did juniors Chris Doherty and Ron Marino. Second place finisher was Paul Ranallo. and third place finishers were Billy Baldwin and Rich Wynn. Fourth place was captured by seniors Joe Mucci, and Tony' Terrorie. Ken O'Neil also showed a strong effort for the Bisons. Berner placed second in their own George K. Doherty Tournament with first place captured by seniors Don Ophals. and Fred Dunau. and junior Chris Doherty. Bill Baldwin and Paul Ranallo took second place. as third was taken by Rich Wynn. and Chris Beyilacqua cap- tured fourth before dropping out due to injury . The Berner Soccer Team continues to be the number one sport in the school. Year in, year out they prove to be one of the strongest teams on Long Island. This year they made up for last years loss in the county finals by winning the title. Coach Chris Sweeney deserves much of the credit along with captains Steve Railton and Vinny Blood. Uutstanding attack was led by seniors Vin Blood, Anthony Mazze, Kevin Shanley, Eugene Gozley, Don Sharkey, Chris Roche, and John Carley. Junior goalie Brian Oliver, backed up by senior defenders Steve Railton, Kevin McCarthy, and Billy Haire proved unbeata- ble throughout the entire season. Congratulations to Coach Sweeney and the entire team on a season that all can be proud of. Special congratulations are in order for Kevin McCarthy, Kevin Shanley, and Anthony Mazze for their goals in the play-offs that gained the team the county title. Also congrat- ulations to Vinny Blood, Steve Railton, and Kevin McCarthy for making the All County team. The entire team would like to congratu- late captain Steve Railton for the honor of being selected to the All American team. .V.
