ERNEST ECKER Mr. Ecker has been a cherished personage here at B-K-W for a long time. He has touched the lives of many students in many ways over the years. He has been involved with every facet of school life- classroom teacher, coach, administrator-and he has always given his all to any role he was asked to play. He shows only the deepest concern for the welfare of his students and only wants the best for them, he may seem “gruff , at first, to those who don’t know him, but his warmth and sincerity soon shine through. He hasn’t fooled anyone in all the time he’s been with us. We love you, Mr. Ecker, as all your past students have, and we’ll miss you . . . Enjoy your retirement . . . you derserve it! 39 YEARS AT B-K-W! MRS. MARIE MCMANAMA Mrs. McManama has been an invaluable part of our lives at B-K-W. Her cheery smile touches all of us everyday. She first started here as a matron, an aide and she is currently the high school office’s secretary. Mrs. McManama is in charge of so much, that we couldn’t possibly list all her duties here. She’s B-K-W’s girl Friday everyday of the week. When speaking of her, the old cliche holds true . .. “To know is to love her!” We hope the next 25 years will be as easy as the first 25 have been. 25 YEARS AT B-K-W! 6 This yearbook is dedicated to .. . Mr. Joseph Foley in appreciation for his guidance and friendship. He has taught us responsibility, honesty, kindness, dependability, and the ability to get along with one another. He isn’t just a teacher, but a friend to each and every one of us. We could feel free to turn to him with anything. Mr. Foley, this is only a small token of thanks for all you have done for us, but we give it with our whole hearts. We shall always remember the memories you gave us, the Class of 1984, as we leave Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and pursue our dreams in life. 7 BOARD OF EDUCATION It Was In Making Education Not Only Common To All. ERNEST ECKER RETIRES . . . 60S Mr. Ernest Ecker joined Berne Knox Westerlo Central School in September of 1955, teaching fifth grade for four years and sixth grade for seven years. He then moved to the junior high and taught seventh grade English, math, social studies and ten week courses in seventh and eighth grade reading, vocabulary and spelling. With the assistance of the Guidance Department, he got a full time reading program started, which included corrective, remedial and speed reading. He also acted as elementary principal for one year and as high school principal for half a year. In addition, he started the consumer economics course, and taught an art class and an eighth grade shop for writing equivalency programs. Some of his other contributions to BKW are the introductions of cross country and track, and coaching soccer for 20 years. Mr. Ecker’s main aim in education has been to “bring out the best in all”. Berne Knox Westerlo School has benefitted greatly from Mr. Ecker through his profe-sional and personal efforts. We will miss him, but best wishes go with him in his future endeavors. When I walk I part the air and always the air moves in to fill the spaces where my body’s been. We all have reasons for moving. I move to keep things whole. ERIC STEMPLE 1966 - 1982 Christopher A.
