He taught us the full value of those qualities of leadership, co-operation, tnrstworthiness, and fair play, which are necessary for success. He showed us, that only by working together as one, could we attain our final prize, graduation. Mr. Egnaczyk, we as a class wish to offer our grateful thanks to you. It is but a small tribute to offer in return, but our hearts go with it. We shall always remember you as we take our places in life, as one who helped to make us better citizens of our country. This semester Bobo a toy stuffed dog joined us as class mascot We, as juniors could easily be distinguished with our green and white beanies Then on a fine night in May we had our junior Prom. Stardust was our theme. Keith Witter provided the music while the couples glided across the gym floor amidst the glittering stars that adorned the curtains and hung from the ceiling. Thus ended a glorious year that will ever live in our memories. At last we came to the final stage in our journey as we took our place as the dignified Seniors. This time Mrs. Lillian Orsini and Mr. Gordon Mason were our advisers. At our first class meeting we elected Barbara Traver, Carole Wielt, Violet Filkins, and Dorothy Pitcher as president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. We started our Senior year with our Senior Harvest Dance. The gym was decorated with the colorful symbols of au- tumn and Ed Bedell's orchestra played. Our next activity was our Senior play Let Me Grow Up which the audience liked very well. Now at last we have reached the end of our journey and have discovered our ultimate gold. With our teachers and advisers to guide us we have followed the course of our map along the pathway which led us to our treasure-graduation. Sometimes we have strayed away from the pathway and have become confused over the boulders standing in our way, but with the aid of our understanding guides we found our way back. Like the miners of long ago we did not rely on pure luck alone, but on our own strength and ability to get us through. Now that graduation is ours, we know that our treasure, our pure gold, lies in the education that we have received at Berne-Knox. Dorir jobanmn 1 X I15I +f1f ,lS to Ill li . Other wagon trains started soon after we did, and one will certainly make a successful strike by next year. Each train followed the other at regular intervals, learning where the one before had met its pitfalls, and profiting by its mistakes. Several of the trains were in close connection as they worked and played to- gether. Activities were presented by each and enjoyed by all. Some more amateur prospectors will need more time for pros- pecting, for only ceaseless effort will eventually lead to success We wish the best of luck to each train following us. A great change had taken place. In 1849 the miners had been content with folk ballads played by one person, or a limited few, but the 1949 miners had progressed along a great route which had gradually developed a finer appreciation of music. Bigger and better organizations, which finally developed into bands, were formed. From the lower corridors of the B-K came the notes of overtures and marches played by the musically inclined students of the '49ers era. The Berne Knox Central School Band under the direction of Gordon Mason is one of the most activc groups in thc school The band has a membership of 48 playing members and additional students who are taking lessons so that they may complete the membership as the seniors leawe Among the various activities of which the band has participated are the numerous parades It has marched in Scotia Mcmorial Day Parade Schenectady Freedom Train Parade and at the Bcrne Memorial Day Parades The band has played at the N Y State Sectional Music Festival for the last 4 years twice at Hudson once at Saratoga and once at Albany From the funds received at the Fall Concerts held each year, the band has purchased capes and caps in the school colors. lt has also purchased several instruments. These include two trombones, drums, an alto clarinet, sousaphone, and orchestra bells. The band has played at the majority of the assemblies throughout the year, and at many evening entertainments. Though the curtain is now falling on the successful completion of one performance, it will rise again on new performances. L39 Q,, Sni 5 xr rw F7'as-Q 'QL N-L.. qw :zmz ? H 455 X A ,lf n r..
