WEBB SapeAX ife ute tfc ' s Uessage I wish to express my congratulations to the class of 1963. I have spent thirty-four years as administrator — one year as high school principal and thirty-three years as superintendent of the Berne-French Township Schools. Thirty-four fine classes of young people have been awarded diplomas since I have been here. I feel that I, too, am a participant in the commencement as I am retiring July 1 of this year. I wish to express my very best wishes to all those who have graduated from our school and especially to those with whom I am sharing commencement honors this year. Superintendent E. M. Webb 16 P t tC j (l? r PRINCIPAL ' S MESSAGE To the Senior Class of 1963; I sin- cerely hope that your academic and social experiences in our school have ignited within you the aspirations to go forth and conquer new challenges in the exciting world before you. I wish you every success in whatever new adventures you seek as you leave the Halls of Berne-French. Come back and visit us often so that we, too, may profit by your many and varied experifnces. C. We re- member a skating party as the main event of our first year of high school. After a small taste of high school life, we progressed to the sophomore class. Our officers were Mrav Bransteter, President; Jerry Fosnaugh, Vice-President; Marjorei DeArmond, Secretary; Rosetta Liechty, Treasurer. This year we all made merry at a Beatnik Party, The officers for our Junior year were Randy Habegger, President; Jerry Fosnaugh, Vice-President; Julie Sprunger, Secretary; Jill Yager, Treasurer. We had a wonderful time making our football float and having a hayride. We presented a play entitled The Boor, which was a lot of fun. Before ending our Junior year, we welcomed the seniors to the annual Junior-Senior Reception. The chosen theme was Parisian Holiday, and the cafeteria was artistically designed like the city of Paris. Feeling older and wiser, we reached the exalted position of Seniors. The year was one of hard studying, but lots of fun. We chose as our officers Kent Ringger, President; Randy Habegger, Vice-President; Deanna WuUi- man, Treasurer; Pat Isch, Secretary. Not finished; Just begun, became our motto as we continued on our road to success. Our class colors were mint green and white with the red rose being our class flower. For our Senior class plays we presented The Storm and Sparkin ' . The highlights of our year were the Pops Concert, the Junior- Senior Reception, and the Alumni Banquet. With many happy smiles and a few tears, we graduated on May 23, each of us to tread a different path in life. We look back over these four years with a multitude of happy memories. 24 DEAN BEER Not too tall, but . . , Oh, so strong. MARVIN BRANSTETER Fun ' s more fun with Marv. Characterized by hard work, determination, and willingness to learn, the second varsity football team to represent Berne gained much in needed experience this season. The Bears showed promise every game. Though coming up short in the scoring department, they certainly couldn ' t be called quitters by any means. The co-captains were seniors, Jerry Fosnaugh and Randy Habegger. Such stalwarts as Kent Ringger, Jerry Burke, Karl Kingsley, Dave Brooks, Dean Beer, and Terry Lehman are among other seniors who will be missed next season. Bob Stahly, due to an injury, was unable to play regularly, weakening the scoring punch of the Bears, Berne lost the hard-fought Hagerstown game at the outset of the season (6-0) but even at that, came within six points of beating the team with the longest record of wins in the state. The end of the season brought better ball playing and the Berne Eleven finished by winning the last two games. Prospects look promising for a tough team in years to come here in Berne. PITCHERS ' RECORD The end of the 1962 baseball season brought to a close the pitching career of one of the greatest baseball players in Berne-French history. After four years of varsity competition, Erv Inniger ' s record stood as follows — 17 victories and defeats. In- cluded in these victories were 7 shut outs and 2 no-hit games. Throughout our high school days, Berne-French has been our guide and our protector, instilling in us the qualities of justice, truth, humility, self-disciplihe, courage, and most important of all, perseverance in all our undertakings. She has aclcnowledged our every plea and has aided us in our every endeavor, so that we, morally and spiritually fortified, are ready for the most difficult challenge of all — life itself. 143 TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY ( The World ' s Best Yearbooks Are Taylor-made '
