The four years of space travel ahead would be hard, we knew, but our ship was sturdy and well-built. To guide our ship the first year we chose George Luginbill, pilot; Gail Egly, co-pilot; Stanley Augsburger, radioman; and Anita Yoder, navigator. Our extra blasts were our initiation from the seniors, and two parties, a skating party and a gym party. Our officers for the sophomore year were Keith Kingsley, president; vice-president, Marjorie Liechty; secretary, George Luginbill; and treasurer, Jerry Zeigler. Our parties were a skating party and a party at the State Forest, The highlight of the year was order- ing our class rings. The third year of space travel was windy and gusty, but fun. The officers of our spaceship were Pat Raudenbush, president; George Luginbill, vice-president; Anita Yoder, secretary; and Gail Egly, treasurer. To raise money, we presented Finders Creepers as our class play. We made ourselves known by becoming the Yelling Champs of i960. In the spring, we respectfully invited the seniors to the Junior and Senior Reception. The theme was Hawaiian Holiday, and the cafeteria was beautifully decorated for this event. We rode full steam ahead into our senior year. We stopped at a space station just long enough to have our portraits taken. As chief instigators for our last year of space travel we chose Eugene Liechty as president; Jud Sprunger as vice-president; Sherill Beer as secretary; and Rita Wulliman as treasurer. We proudly presented The Little Dog Laughed as our last great dramatic masterpiece. We dedicated the publica- tion of Our Yesterdays to Mr. William Spurgeon, one of our math and science teachers. For our class motto we chose A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins. The class flower is the carnation, dyed to match our class colors, lavender and silver. Reaching our destination, we enjoyed ourselves with short stops at the Pops Concert, the Junior-Senior Reception, and the Alumni Banquet. On May 26, we received our diplomas, awards for four years of good space travel. STAN AUGSBURGER Better men than 1 have lived, but I ' ll make a study of it. WHATS YOUR SECRET. e fto tcii i UKfrcoKA The ' Fighting Bears ' proved themselves capable in anyone ' s league, covering themselves and the peo- ple they represented with glory by their stellar play on the hardwood and their fine display of sports- manship. Our great team, coached by Smith and Sprunger, brought home 2 ' victories including County, Sectional, and Regional crowns. The stirring victory o er Elkhart in afternoon Semi-State play brought praises from many are sportswriters for the representation given by the Berne-French Bears. In tourney play the Bears bowed only to the State ' s No. 1 ranked team, the Kokomo Kats, but not until they had given them a terrific battle, exchanging leads and rallies to the final buzzer. This team carried the local colors as far as any team in the history of the school. This sparkling comedy concerns the efforts of Laurie Huntington, a college girl, to reform her family via psychology. She soon has her bewildered parents and brother wandering around with thermometers in their mouths and fussing about their E.P. ' s (Energy Peaks). Finally, however, the family rebel after they discover that Laurie has made them the subjects of some very unflattering case histories. In a hilarious third act they broadly satirize some of Laurie ' s pet psychological theories and she leaves the house in a state of fury. She returns, having realized that a little psychology is a dangerous thing and finds forgiveness and love from her family. PLAY CAST L.inne Huntwglon . LEARNING BY DOING: DOING IT WELL The Diversified Co-operative Education program, now in its second year at Berne, has met with much success in the occupational training of our students. Diversified Co-operative Education consists of in-school and on-the-job-training. Boys and girls who take the training are selected on the basis of their interest, aptitude, and occupational training needs. Local business and industrial concerns are invited to co- operate in the program by providing on-the-job training under the leadership of a skilled person. During the past year these students have been employed at the following concerns: Shell Service Station, Serv-us Store, Lehman Plumbing and Heating, Berne Witness Company, Economy Printing Concern, Berne Furniture and Company, Tom O ' Lynda Beauty Shop, and Moore Store. The trainees under the program take a related study class in school. This classroom work consists of studies relating to employment in general and lessons concerning the particular skill the student is learning. 86 Well, Come along!
