Junior Class History In the fall of 1947 we entered our Junior year. After a long wait we at last had become upper class-men. We call ourselves the 49'ers. For our class officers we chose Jack Lehman as president; Carol Sprunger as vice president; Ar lene Habegger as secretary, and Tom Zehr as treasurer. We went to the CCC camp at Bluffton for our class party. It was a Hallowe’en party and we had a fine time. After our graduation, which isn’t far off, we hope we will be remembered as a class that Berne High School can be proud of. Row 1: Sharon Allspaw, Marvin Amstutz, John Eichenberger, Delora Graber. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the class of the year One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-eight, being about to depart from this harbor of good times and little hard work, and being in full possession of the knowledge that we acquired in four long years; do hereby take the privilege to publicly declare this our last will and testament in the following manner; To the faculty of dear B. H. S. we will our highly achieved ambitions which we never made use of. To the Juniors, we bequeath the affection the teachers have for us, and our dignity as Seniors. To the Sophomores, we bequeath our supernatural ability with books; also our secret signs and signals so they can communicate more easily. To the Freshmen, we will our brilliance, and also our getting by with, peanuts, candy, chewing gum, and cracker jack, in Mr. Spurgeon's classes. I, Ruth Allspaw, will my long wavy hair to Janice Amstutz. I, Valier Amstutz, will my meek and quite nature to John Eichenbergcr. I, Sally Bagley, will my ability to skip school to anyone who can get by with it. I, Lanetta Bertsch, will my quietness to my sister, Dorothy. I. Roger Bixler, will my slow and careful driving to David Nussbaum. I, Willodean Bollenbacher, will my ability of getting rides to and from school to my sister. I, Duane Ellcnbergcr, will my reputation as a heart smasher to Duane Lehman. I. Wallace Flueckiger, will my ability for saying brilliant (?) remarks to Palmer Hearc. I, Pauline Gerber, will my art of giggling to Elsie Jane Lehman. I, Elaine Gilliom, will my ability of having dates so frequently to Shirley Hirschy. I, Walter Graber, will my infant whiskers to Charles Nagel. I. Loren Heare, will my ability to sing western songs to Merlin Lehman. I, Robert Huffman, v ill my ability as an artist to Thomas Ricsen. I. Jane Kehrn, will my ability of getting a diamond to Delora Graber. I, Gerald Lehman, will my blushing ability when teacher calls on me to Jimmy Gerber. I, Willard Lehman, do gladly bequeath, my trusty old flivver (with me in it) to Ruth Inniger. I, Larry L.iechty, will my ability to play basketball to Dick Allspaw. I, Charles McCrory, will my name and life to Cynthia Kirchhofer. I, Arthur Muselman, will nothing to no one, hoping it will get no one nowhere. I, Conrad Nagci, will my ability of co-operating so nicely (?) with Miss Blue, to Paul Weller. I, Waneta Nussbaum, will my ability to daydreaming in English class about that certain some one to Donna Mac Sprunger. I, Robert Schindler, will my ability to get along with the teachers to Judson Lehman. I, Betty Schug, will my quite nature to Phyllis Kneuss. I. David Schwartz, will my ability to date a certain Junior girl to anyone who can get her. I. James Shoemaker, will my playboy and childish ideas to anyone who cares for them. I, Marilyn Smith, will my ability to cheer-lead to Carolyn Smith. I, Beverly Sprunger, will my ability of getting to walk out of classes because of hiccoughs to anyone one who will have them! I, Kent Sprunger, the despair of order loving teachers (and lovesick youths) do give and bequeath one box of Monkey Grip to Dorothy Bertsch, to be applied whenever the inclination to talk during school hours becomes too great for human effort to restrain it. I. Leroy Sprunger, will my farming nature to Fredrick Sprunger. I, Fredrick Stauffer, will my music talent to Junior Hawkins. I, Cosetta Steiner, will my tallness to Ronald Krehbiel. I. Robert Wittwer, will my interests in Decatur to Rirchard Hirschy. We do hereby constitute and appoint Jack Lehman, president of the Junior Class, so hereby agree the above to be our last will and testament and do set our seal of eternal memories on this 18th day of May, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-eight. Sophomore Class History In the fall of 1947 a new class of sophomores enrolled in Berne High School. Soon after that we elected our officers. We choose Ronald Townsend as president. Duane Lehman as vice president, Cynthia Kirchofer as secretary, and Anna Schwartz as treasurer. On March 16, 1948 we had a skating party. This was held at the Portland Skating Rink. Everyone had a good time. We hope that our class will be one long remembered by other students and teachers of Berne High School. Row 1: Dick Augsburger, Janice Amstutz, William Barrett.
