Mr. Spurgeon: Why not? Connie: Well, the Declaration of Independence reads: 'There shall be no governing without consent of the governed.” Mr. Webb: If you have seven apples and I ask you for two of them, how many would you have left? Arne: Seven! Hedges: If a number of cattle is called a herd, and a number of sheep is called a flock, what would you call a number of camels? Art H.: A carton! Miss Blue: Now let me see if you can make up a sentence with the word beans.” Graber: My father grows beans. Ruthie: My mother cooks beans. Kent: We are all human beans. Tom R.: What's the date today? Chuck N.: I don't know. Tom R.: Take a look at that newspaper. Chuck N.: It's no use. It's yesterday’s paper. Ronnie: Is Amsterdam a bad word? Calendar Report September 2—Back to school once more. Ugh! Means more studying. September 3—What a studious bunch! Looks like we're going to learn a lot this year. September 16—The Bears made an excellent showing in the first baseball game of the season. We beat Geneva Cardinals 15-1. September 22—Election of class officers. Congratulations, you four senior boys! September 23—H. S. Band marched in the opening parade at the Bluffton Street Fair. September 24—Bears defeated Wren 45-6. Twenty-three players were used and Heare hit three homers ' September 26—Bears beat Warren 17-2. Only 412 innings. I guess Warren had enough! September 29—The dignified senior girls tried to give the Freshies a once over, but I heard it almost turned out the other way around. October 2—The seven-teeners decided to have a dinner at Decatur. We got back in time for school though, because Smith was driving. Naturally! Annual Staff was elected. October 3—Teachers were lenient. Got to listen to the World Series. October 6—Listened to the Series once more. Yankees beat. October 7—Lucky Seniors! Shuck had a game at Wren, so we got out of the Civics test. Saw a Fire Prevention Film. October 9—Poor Art! He got all his candy-taken away in Civics class all because of some girl sitting in front of him. October 10—A bunch of girls wanted to see the Pennville baseball game and just got there in time for the last inning. Poor kids! Bears beat them 4-1. October 15—This is gonna hurt! Here come our report cards for the first six weeks. October 16—First P. T. A. Meeting. I wonder if the parents and teachers made a hit with each other?????? October 23-24—Teacher's Convention. November 3—Saw a March of Time film in the gym. November 5—Chapel. Rev. O. A. Krehbiel was the speaker. November 7—The Bears won our first game over Geneva. November 10-11—The school enjoyed speeches on occupations by the public speaking class. November 12—Chapel. Rev. Schmid was the speaker. November 13—P. T. A. Saw a March of Time film in the gym. November 14—The Bears gave the Spartans a ride. We beat by 31 points. Nice chuggin' Bears! Keep up the good work! November 18—The Bears were nudged out by the Bull Dogs 30-26. November 19—Chapel. Rev. Wiederkehr was the speaker. November 20—The P. T. A. presented a very fine play, All American Family, at the Berne Auditorium. November 21—Here come tests! Second period ends. November 25—Portland Panthers best the Bears by 19 points. The game was closer than it sounds. November 26—Rev. Lockwood's visitors gave us a program in chapel. Got report cards!!! November 27-28—Thanksgiving vacation, from their vacation. December 1—Everyone's lazy starting school December 3—We were supposed to have chapel but the speaker apparently didn’t arrive so we got out of school early. December 5—Bears were defeated by the Decatur Yellow Jackets 51-38. December 10—Chapel. December 12—Hartford beat the Bears 42-31. December 17—Chapel. December 19—The Bears nudged the Bluff ton Tigers out by a 2 point defeat. December 23—The Bears beat Lancaster by I i points. Keep up the good work boys. December 24—Christmas vacation begins. January 1—The Blind Tourney was held at Bluffton. The Bears defeated New Haven Ten
