To our parents, who by their sacrifices and encouragement have made our high school education possible; to the faculty, for their splendid help; and to the advertisers, who assisted in making this publication a success, we wish to express our appreciation and thanks. DEDICATION For her enduring patience, hard work, and radiant personality, Miss Stone has given the students here at Berne High School many enjoyable moments. Her fine class plays which she has so capably directed have always been a success. Arne: Seven! Hedges: If a number of cattle is called a herd, and a number of sheep is called a flock, what would you call a number of camels? Art H.: A carton! Miss Blue: Now let me see if you can make up a sentence with the word beans.” Graber: My father grows beans. Ruthie: My mother cooks beans. Kent: We are all human beans. Tom R.: What's the date today? Chuck N.: I don't know. Tom R.: Take a look at that newspaper. Chuck N.: It's no use. It's yesterday’s paper. Ronnie: Is Amsterdam a bad word? Howdie: No. Ronnie: Is Rotterdam a bad word? Howdie: No, why? Ronnie: Well, Mary ate a piece of my candy and I hope it'll Rotterdam teeth out! Eight 1. Snoopin’? 2. Our Muscle-men.” 3. Who are you watchin’? 4. Executive Webb. 5. A new addition—. 6. Fifth Grade Boss.” 7. Handy-man.” 8. Secret?? Calendar Report September 2—Back to school once more. Ugh! Means more studying. September 3—What a studious bunch! Looks like we're going to learn a lot this year. September 16—The Bears made an excellent showing in the first baseball game of the season. We beat Geneva Cardinals 15-1. September 22—Election of class officers. Congratulations, you four senior boys! September 23—H. S. Band marched in the opening parade at the Bluffton Street Fair. September 24—Bears defeated Wren 45-6. Twenty-three players were used and Heare hit three homers ' September 26—Bears beat Warren 17-2. Only 412 innings. I guess Warren had enough! September 29—The dignified senior girls tried to give the Freshies a once over, but I heard it almost turned out the other way around. October 2—The seven-teeners decided to have a dinner at Decatur. We got back in time for school though, because Smith was driving. Naturally! Annual Staff was elected. October 3—Teachers were lenient. Got to listen to the World Series. October 6—Listened to the Series once more. Yankees beat. October 7—Lucky Seniors! Shuck had a game at Wren, so we got out of the Civics test. Saw a Fire Prevention Film. October 9—Poor Art! He got all his candy-taken away in Civics class all because of some girl sitting in front of him. October 10—A bunch of girls wanted to see the Pennville baseball game and just got there in time for the last inning. Poor kids! Bears beat them 4-1. October 15—This is gonna hurt! Here come our report cards for the first six weeks. October 16—First P. T. A. Meeting. I wonder if the parents and teachers made a hit with each other?????? October 23-24—Teacher's Convention. November 3—Saw a March of Time film in the gym. November 5—Chapel. Rev. O. A. Krehbiel was the speaker. November 7—The Bears won our first game over Geneva. November 10-11—The school enjoyed speeches on occupations by the public speaking class. November 12—Chapel. Rev. Schmid was the speaker. November 13—P. T. A. Saw a March of Time film in the gym. November 14—The Bears gave the Spartans a ride. We beat by 31 points. Nice chuggin' Bears! Keep up the good work! November 18—The Bears were nudged out by the Bull Dogs 30-26. November 19—Chapel. Rev. Wiederkehr was the speaker. November 20—The P. T. A. presented a very fine play, All American Family, at the Berne Auditorium. November 21—Here come tests! Second period ends. November 25—Portland Panthers best the Bears by 19 points. The game was closer than it sounds. November 26—Rev. Lockwood's visitors gave us a program in chapel. Got report cards!!! November 27-28—Thanksgiving vacation, from their vacation. December 1—Everyone's lazy starting school December 3—We were supposed to have chapel but the speaker apparently didn’t arrive so we got out of school early. December 5—Bears were defeated by the Decatur Yellow Jackets 51-38. December 10—Chapel. December 12—Hartford beat the Bears 42-31. December 17—Chapel. December 19—The Bears nudged the Bluff ton Tigers out by a 2 point defeat. December 23—The Bears beat Lancaster by I i points. Keep up the good work boys. December 24—Christmas vacation begins. January 1—The Blind Tourney was held at Bluffton. The Bears defeated New Haven Ten in the afternoon game, but were conquered by the Yellow Jackets in the night game. January 3—Shoemaker made a great showing as the Bears beat C. C. Irish by 20 points. Nice going Shoey! January 5—Everyone is sleeping today in school. I guess we all had plenty Christmas vacation. January 6—The Bears defeated Columbia City Eagles by 5 points. January 7—Rev. Krehbicl talked in chapel. January 14—Rev. Oscar Eicher was in charge of the chapel service. January 16—Semester ends. Bears defeated Warren in a rough game. January 18—Beginning of second semester and everyone is relieved because tests are over. January 21—Chapel. January 23—Bears defeated Ossian. January 27—Bears nudged out the Bearkatz by 3 points. Yea! Rah! Bears!!! January 28—Chapel. January 30—Bears were defeated by Angola 2 points in the last minute of the game. February 6—First overtime game of the year. Bears were defeated by 2 points. Nice game boys! February 7—Junior Class Play. February 10—Bears were defeated at Dunkirk. February 12—P. T. A. February 13—Bears were defeated by the Yellow Jackets. February 17—H. S. Operetta. February 19—H. S. Operetta repeated. February 20—Bears defeated Montpelier 53-50. February 22—Blue gave in and showed the Seniors some movies. Two at that!!! That is compliments to Miss Lizy Beth Blue from the Senior Class. February 26—Six weeks period ends. February 27-28—Sectional continues. Kirkland knocked out Berne by one point. Tough luck Bears! Hartford took the Sectional. March 1 1—P. T. A. March 26—Good Friday vacation. April 3—District Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Festival. April 9—Fifth Period ends. April 10—State Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Festival. April 15—P. T. A. April 16—Senior Class Play. April 23—Elementary Grade Program. April 30—Music Concert by the Music Dept. May 7—Junior-Senior Reception. May 14—Alumni Banquet. May 16—Baccalaureate. May 18—Commencement —Seniors say Farewell.” TIPS TO STUDENTS Always chew gum in class. It's a mark of highly developed culture. Answer questions before the teachers call on you. They save their abundance of stored up energy. Students are expected to be absent whenever possible. It makes less work for the over-burdened faculty. Sharpen your pencil whenever you are restless. It is a good chance to take your mind off your studies. Sleep whenever you become sleepy. The teachers won't have to tell you to stop disturbing others. Write all translations in your book. It s your duty you owe to next year s students. Copy all your work. It saves a lot of time. Always keep class room door glass clean. This enables Mr. Spurgeon and Mr. Renner to peek in without anything obstructing their view. Eleven 1. Study Hall. 2. Christmas Decorations. 3. Tough Typists. 4. Mechanical Drawing. 5. Twelve CLASSES Senior Class History In the year 1944 the names of thirty-five bashful Freshmen were entered upon the rolls of Berne High School. In our first class meeting we chose Robert Schindler as our president; Sally Bagley, our vice president; Duane Ellenberger, secretary, and Charles McCrory, our treasurer. They led us through the nine months with a strong determination to achieve great things. As we came back the next fall we felt quite grown up. We were very happy that we were now called upper classmen. Our class officers for this year were as follows: president. David Schwartz; vice president, Larry Liechty, secretary, Chester Habegger; treasurer, Sally Bagley. The biggest event during this year was a party held in the school gymnasium, in the middle of December. We were now starting on the third lap of our journey. We chose David Schwartz for president; Marilyn Smith, vice president; Arthur Muselman, secretary, and Waneta Nussbaum, treasurer. This year for our first class play we gave Every Family Has One,” under the direction of Miss Blanche Stone. It proved to be a great success. On May 9 we entertained the Seniors at the Junior-Senior reception. A good program was given and the food enjoyed by all. We also had a very good class party at the CCC camp, in October. At last we have succeeded in reaching our final goal. Our officers this year arc: David Schwartz, president; Frederick Stauffer, vice president; Conrad Nagel, secretary, and Duane Ellenberger, treasurer. I his year had hardly a dull moment. Our class colors are cerise and white, with which colors this annual has been bound. This year our class has decided to go to Chicago on our class trip. Another high spot in our Senior career was our class play, entitled Beauty and the Beef. I his play was a hilarious success. Although we are glad that we have progressed so far. we look back with regret that this pleasant chapter of our life has ended. And so we take with us fond memories and the benefits of our experiences that will help us overcome the problems that we will meet in the future. Eighteen Senior Class Prophecy Hi, Ruthie! Why, hello there, Sally. Imagine meeting you in Chicago! What are you doing now? I am an airline hostess and am on my way bach to Berne for a little visit. As a matter of fact, I'm headed in that direction, too. I’ve been traveling around the country on my vacation, mostly by train, but now I've accepted a teaching position in Indianapolis. Why don't you come with me in my car? There's plenty of room for all your suitcases. Oh, fine! Then we can talk about our high school days together. Do you know what any of our old classmates of '48 arc doing? Well, I know Bob Schindler is really successful as a surgeon in Chicago. He always wanted to be a doctor. I was in Philadelphia the day before yesterday, and met Robert Huffman going down the street. He recognized me, too, and stopped to talk. He's a commercial artist with the Peppermint Toothpaste Company. He is married now, and has two little blond girls. Have you heard who won the Miss America title this year? No, who? One of our class? Yes. Jane Kehrn. Isch must be proud of her! Oh. look what's playing at this new theater! James Shoemaker, the Van Johnson of 1956; Duane Ellenberger, Clark Gable the second; and the most popular actress in the U. S. in Never Again.'' James and Duane graduated in '48, too. Did you know they both take a different girl out every night? The Indianapolis Speedway Races will open tomorrow. Robert Wittwer, of Berne, is considered the best bet to win. Imagine all those famous people coming from our class in old Berne High, Ruthie! Isn't it wonderful? It surely is. Sal. that's a darling dress you're wearing. Isn't it a Beverly Ann frock? You know, that's Bev Sprungcr who designs those dresses and I heard she's a wonderful designer. She's in Boston, isn't she? Yes. Betty Schug designs clothes, too. Children's clothes, that is. Elaine Gilliom—she's Rich now—bought a Betty Lou dress for her little girl and it was the sweetest thing you ever saw. Who else was in our class? Oh, Lanetta Bertsch—she owns a large beauty shop in Mun-cie now, and I hear she is engaged. Cosetta Steiner, I hear, is still seen around Berne a lot. She's teaching a new kindergarten class. She was married six years ago— her twin boys are in her class. Marilyn Smith is head nurse at Irene Byron, and Willodean Bollenbachcr is the chief dietician. Pauline Gerber married a photographer. They take pictures of their five children on their birthdays every year. I'd better go get my car serviced. There's a long drive ahead of me. Look, here's a nice, modern-looking station.........Fill it up, and check the oil. please. I wonder who that attendant is? He looks familiar. I do believe that's David Schwartz, our class president! Hi, David. Remember us? What do you hear from some of our Berne High classmates? One of them is right next door. Next door? Look, that sign says, ' Flick's Pool Room, Wallace Flucckiger, proprietor.' There he is now. Hello, Wally. How s the old boy? No, really? I wonder if Loren Heare does the same. He's a singing cowboy in many of these western pictures. The younger fans really like him, too! Here’s my car. Let's sit and listen to the radio for a while. Oh, it's the Hour of Nineteen Charm”! I wonder who their new singer that they announced last week is? ”... we bring you Waneta Nussbaum, our new singing sensation.” Waneta Nussbaum! Why she's one of our old classmates, too. Isn't that beautiful singing? It surely is. Well, that program is over. Let’s listen to the news. . . . And now for a summary of the day's news. Admiral of the Navy Kent Sprunger has just made the announcement that he definitely will not run for President. Valier Amstutz, famous professor and atomic power expert, has discovered a new element, which he has named 'stutzonium.’ Construction of the bridge across the English Channel is nearly completed, American chief engineer Frederick Stauffer announced today. He and his English wife will be the first to drive across when the bridge is officially opened. A passenger train on the Atchison. Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad was derailed at Denver. The engineer, Walter Graber, was the only crewman who escaped unhurt. Now lor the sports news. i he Chicago Bears won against the Pistons, chiefly through the efforts of their star forward. Larry Liech-ty, who scored thirty two points. His average is now thirty points a game.” Fine, thanks. By the way, I just got a letter from Leroy Sprunger, with some news about our class. I'll read some of it. . . . Gerald Lehman is a big wheat rancher in Nebraska. Conrad Nagel is president of Nagel's, Inc., the largest greenhouse business in the U. S. Charles McCrory married his high school sweetheart and is playing baseball with the New York Yankees. Arthur Muselman is the Democratic party boss m Indiana. Willard Lehman is a civil engineer in Columbus, Ohio. Roger Bixler is a pharmacist in the Navy. . . .” I'll skip some here. It's just news about his town, family, and friends. His family, by the way, has four members besides himself— he has two girls and a boy. Here at the end he says, 'Come and see me sometime when my quartet sings in Pittsburgh.’ ” Well, I believe that completes the list of Berne High School graduates of 1948. There are thirty-two of them, and as far as I can see, all of them have made successes in life. Now we must be going along. We’ll sec you sometime—maybe at a class reunion. Ruth Allspaw Sally Bagley History of a Joke Age: One day—Freshman thinks it up and roars with laughter. Age: Two days—Freshman tells it to a senior who think it’s corny. Age: Three days—Senior turns it in to school paper as his original. Age: Two weeks—School paper prints it and doesn't mention Senior. Age: One month—Berne Witness prints it. Age: Three months—Twenty radio comedians use joke on program. Age: One year—Hollywood puts it into a movie. Age: Two years—Reader's Digest prints joke, credits it to the Saturday Evening Post. Age: Five years—Lum and Abner tell it. Age: Fifteen years—Biblical Recorders use it. Age: Twenty-five years—B. H. S. teachers use it in their classes to tell their students. Freshman: Huh? Sophomore: What? Junior: I beg your pardon. Senior: I did not comprehend the nature of your inquiry. Twenty 1. Civics class. 2. Teacher's pet peeve.” 3. Senior businessmen. 4. Our bashful boys.” Twenty-one LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the class of the year One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-eight, being about to depart from this harbor of good times and little hard work, and being in full possession of the knowledge that we acquired in four long years; do hereby take the privilege to publicly declare this our last will and testament in the following manner; To the faculty of dear B. H. S. we will our highly achieved ambitions which we never made use of. To the Juniors, we bequeath the affection the teachers have for us, and our dignity as Seniors. To the Sophomores, we bequeath our supernatural ability with books; also our secret signs and signals so they can communicate more easily. To the Freshmen, we will our brilliance, and also our getting by with, peanuts, candy, chewing gum, and cracker jack, in Mr. Spurgeon's classes. I, Ruth Allspaw, will my long wavy hair to Janice Amstutz. I, Valier Amstutz, will my meek and quite nature to John Eichenbergcr. I, Sally Bagley, will my ability to skip school to anyone who can get by with it. I, Lanetta Bertsch, will my quietness to my sister, Dorothy. I. Roger Bixler, will my slow and careful driving to David Nussbaum. I, Willodean Bollenbacher, will my ability of getting rides to and from school to my sister. I, Duane Ellcnbergcr, will my reputation as a heart smasher to Duane Lehman. I. Wallace Flueckiger, will my ability for saying brilliant (?) remarks to Palmer Hearc. I, Pauline Gerber, will my art of giggling to Elsie Jane Lehman. I, Elaine Gilliom, will my ability of having dates so frequently to Shirley Hirschy. Thirty S PO RTS Coach Ned Shuck Coach Ned Shuck has been coaching at Berne for four years. Mr. Shuck has produced some good teams during his four years at Berne. He has led Berne to two consecutive Sectional Championships. There is no doubt that Mr. Shuck is one of the best coaches Berne has ever had. He deserves a lot of credit luck in the world in his future years of coaching at Berne. With very promising potential teams coming up, we wish Mr. Shuck all the tor his success in Berne. CHEER LEADERS Arlene Habegger Maggie Lehman Marilyn Smith Thirty-two JAMES SHOEMAKER Jim was the regular center the first half of the season before a knee operation became necessary. Inn was good on rebounds and defense was just beginning to score around the basket when injured. He is a senior and a two-year man. N. S. DAVID SCHWARTZ David played a regular forward position but sometimes was shifted to guard when needed there. Although small he was excellent on rebounds and was very good defensive man and scored his share of points. He is a senior and has two years of varsity experience. N. S. LARRY LIECHTY Larry played one of the regular guard’s position and was the most consistent scorer on the team. He was a clever dribbler and bail handler and as he went so did the team. Larry is a senior and this was his second year on the first team. N. S. CHARLES McCRORY Charlie played both guard and forward and was a most valuable reserve, especially on defense. Injured in an accident, he recuperated in time to make the tourney team. He is a senior and a two-year man. N. S. LEROY SPRUNGER Leroy was the shortest player on the team but had a lot of drive and determination. He did his share of scoring and was the best long shot on the team. He played a regular guard position and is a senior and is a two-year man. N. S. DUANE ELLENBERGER Duane was another regular who played forward. He started slow but improved rapidly both in scoring and team play. His favorite shot was a one-hand push shot around the foul circle. He is a senior and played on the first team last year. N. S. Thirty-three RONALD KREHBIEL Ronnie, a sophomore, saw action as both forward and center. He was a regular most of the season and was very valuable to the team on rebounds and defensive work. This is his second year as a varsity player. N. S. PAUL WELLER The only junior on the team, Paul saw limited action, but when inserted into the lineup usually came through with a timely basket. He has lots of drive and is a good competitor. N. S. HOWARD HABEGGER Howard is a sophomore who has a lot of drive and determination and was improving rapidly at the end of the season. He was good at rebounding and drive-in shots. N. S. RICHARD AUGSBURGER Dick is a sophomore who played most of the season on the second team, but because of his rebounding ability and improved all-around play was promoted to the first team the last few weeks of the season. N. S. TOM ZEHR Tom is the head student manager whose job it is to sec that ail equipment and many other things arc cared for. The manager’s job is one of great responsibility and Tommy, a junior, has done this job well. N. S. Thirty-four BERNE BEARS BASKETBALL TEAM The Bears finished a season of basketball with 11 wins and 10 losses. This record was not quite so good as it has been in previous years. But with the fine coaching of Mr. Shuck the boys were in there giving out all they had. The Bears participated in a New Year's tournament. In the first game the Bears downed the favored New Haven Bulldogs by a score of 35 to 28 and then turned around and lost to a Red Hot Decatur team 46 to 30. This was the first time Berne has gotten to the finals for several years. Mr. Renner is the supervisor of these activities. Class Tourney The Class Tourney this year was won by the Seniors, who defeated the Sophomore team in the first game, and then went on to defeat the Juniors in the final game by an overwhelming score. The Bears played 10 games and won them all by large margins. One of the games seemed more like a basketball score than a baseball score. By beating Wren by an unbelievable score of 45 to 6, the Bears made a new record that will stand out tar and wide. The first string was made up of seven seniors, one Junior and one Sophomore. Forty-two FREEMAN BURKHALTER During the past ten years of his work here, Mr. Burkhalter has devoted himself wholeheartedly to the task of creating a real interest in the music activities of our school, hie has given unselfishly of his time and abilities and has exerted more patience than anyone could hope to expect from one individual. His abilities are of the highest and best quality that Berne High School has ever possessed. There are not words to express our gratitude for his untiring efforts in developing and advancing the music organizations of our school. Forty-three BERNE HIGH SCHOOL BAND The Band had rehearsals weekly and gave several concerts and marched for the Annual Riding Horse Show during the summer months. Assisted by the twirlers the Band marched for the Annual Colt Show, for the Bluffton Street Fair and performed for all the home basketball games. They also furnished music for a Youth for Christ meeting in the Mennonite Church. Due to the abilities of Mr. Burkhalter the prestige of the Band has increased throughout the school and community. It was presented by the members of the A Cappella Choir under the able direction of Freeman Burkhalter. The setting of the story is in the mythical land of Way Off. ruled by King Duck Ling, (Johnny Eichenberger) which is constantly threatened by war. Princess Ting Ah Ling (Waneta Nussbaum) was sought in marriage by Tu Fat (Tom Zehr) (Prince of the Land of Hokum and also by Wun Lung (Willard Lehman) elderly King of a neighboring Kingdom. She was wooed and won by Ah Lee (Jim Shoemaker) who was the son of Look See (Fred Stauffer) the court astrologer. Ah Lee, an American University graduate won the hand of the princess after an amusing series of incidents including the loss of appetite by Tu Fat, who loved his food more than he did the princess. Ku Ku (Robert Schindler) the court jester added much humor and enjoyment to the story. Others in the cast were six chefs, Roger Bixler, Palmer Heare, Bill Barrett, Leroy Sprunger, David Nussbaum and Merlin Lehman and Billy Stucky as messenger and Jerry Lehman as Domine. The chorus consisted of 41 voices. An instrumental ensemble provided the musical background. Forty-seven MUSIC The musical program of our school includes the High School Band, High School Orchestra, A Cappella Choir and Girls' Glee Club. All groups have been active in the community functions during the past successful year. The State Solo and Ensemble contest was held at Fort Wayne on February 21. Our school was very well represented this year. Among those receiving Superior rating were: Ruth Inniger, piano; Arlene Habegger, piano; Waneta Nussbaum, vocal solo; Delora Graber, vocal solo; James Shoemaker, vocal solo; Tom Zehr, vocal solo; Bob Schindler, vocal solo; a woodwind quintette and a boys' quartette. Two vocal solos, one violin, five piano solos and a string quartette received an Excellent rating. A Good rating was given to one vocal and one piano solo. We are very proud of these our fellow-students who have brought great honors to our school. The Band, Orchestra and A Cappella Choir made an excellent showing in the District and State Contests. At the District Contest held at Hartford City each of our organizations received Superior rating. Also at the State Contest at North Manchester they all came through with Superior rating again. This is quite a record for us, and it is the first time in the History of Berne High School that every organization received a first division rating in both the District and State Contests. Congratulations to Mr. Burkhalter for his untiring effort and hard work with the students in preparation for these Contests which have increased the prestige of our school. Forty-eight Forty-nine LATIN CLUB Miss Beth Blue, Latin and English Instructor, started the Latin Club several years ago. The Club is composed of first and second year Latin students. The Club is a state organization and many schools throughout the state of Indiana have a Club much the same as the one here in Berne. They even refuse to go to the school prom with Greg and Kerry. It seems to Kerry action is needed, so he and Greg plot with the family—they all go in for ART. Penny's dad tootes sour notes on the saxophone. Penny’s mother capers about artistically; the cook swings dumb-bells. Greg bellows operatic arias, and Kerrv, pretending to be an artist, starts hiring models. To make matters worse, Penny shoos away the agent for a soap manufacturer who has a contract for her dad. She even forgets to tell her dad that the agent is coming back. But the woman does come back just in time to get a shot in the face from a water pistol, for Kerry and Greg fight a mock duel over Penny. She won’t be teacher’s pet any more, and the boys will date her like anyone else. The captain of the football team, named Beef,” has already offered to help her with American History, which he can easily do since he’s working off a condition in that subject. (He doesn’t know that it's Ginny’s special field and she has it all cold from Columbus to date.) Ginny s brother is on her side; lie's sick of being the bro;her of the child wonder. In fact, Lester is out to make the school band, although he knows nothing of music. He has picked out the bass drum as his instrument—that is, if he can only get hold of one. It turns out that Molly oods dad has one, and from then on Les is out to bribe Molly into sneaking it out, which she does with utterly unforseen results. Ginny knows her dad is her chief danger, for he likes to brag ot her record. He almost spills the secret in a talk with Beef, but remembers in the nick of time. But Beef sees Ginny’s prize cup and discovers that the girl he has been helping is tops in the field. Beef leaves and Ginny is heartbroken. Then to prove to Beef that she isn t too smart, she copies the wrong answers from his exam. In the questioning that follows, each admits to copying but it is Beef who is suspended. That’s another catastrophe, for without Beef, the team can t win the big football game. The only hope is somehow to get the game postponed until Beef s suspension is lifted. They get it postponed by putting epicac in the team's coca. But that stunt almost gets them in trouble with the law. Maybe they are at so clever after all. Still its ail straightened out at the final curtain and Franny dates Foggy and Ginny has her dates with Beef at last. A state-wide cheerleaders convention was held at Bloomington, Indiana, on the Indiana University campus. 150 cheerleaders attended this convention, including three Berne representatives, namely, Marilyn Smith, Maggie Lehman, and Arlene Habegger. These Berne cheerleaders spent the day in Bloomington getting some pointers on ways to control crowds at the ball games, and also some new yelling methods. Write all translations in your book. It’s your duty you owe to next year’s students. Copy all your work. It saves a lot of time. Be sure to have poorly prepared recitations on Mondays; the shock would otherwise be too great for the teachers. Always leave the room without permission. It shows your independence.
