Dignity -i- Stuart Lehmann, President Frederick Lieciity, Vice President Darlene Bowman. Secretary Irene Graber, Treasurer These Last Four Years It was a bright fall day in the year of ’42 when fifty starry-eyed Freshmen entered the halls of Berne High School. The adventures that lav ahead of us we never surmised. But soon it was known to all that here was a class with ambition and courage to put things through. At our first class meeting we chose four officers to help us through this new ordeal. Carl Henry Muselman became our president; Darlene Bowman, our vice president; Charles Abraham, cur secretary; and Hugh D. Sprunger, our treasurer. They were wonderful—braving us through our first successful year. Then came our Sophomore year, and ah. . . what bliss! For we had a new name; our old name, Freshman, was forgotten. We strolled through the halls with assurance and boldly stood up for our own. During this year we acquired much knowledge, for we had a world history course, which really set our minds buzzing. Then we had a hayride class party, which was enjoyed by all. This year our class officers were Frederick Liech-ty, president; Darlene Bowman, vice president; Gloria Riesen, secret:ry; and Stuart Lehmann, treasurer. In our Junior year life was filled with brimming experiences. There was our Junior Class party. (We called it a Hobo Party . . . and it was!) Then came cur first real distinction among the students of the school—our class play, “Spring Green.” It was a successful venture; the tickets were a complete sell-out. And then in the spring we Juniors entertained the Seniors with a reception. We worked diligently and were indeed proud when it proved successful. Our leaders this year were Stuart Lehmann, president; Hugh D. Sprunger, vice president; Delores Sprunger. secretary; and Charles Abraham, treasurer. Our Senior year started off with a bang. When we entered the doors of old Berne High, we well knew this was cur last year’s opportunity to enjoy Miss Hirschy’s study hall . . . Mr. Spurgeon’s pet poem, “Abou Ben Adhem,” . . . Mr. Webb’s lectures in the gym . . . and Miss Blue’s hand that automatically fluttered up to those dark raven tresses Twelve
