Mr. Andre is the man be- hind the scenes, the boss. The curtain of our school life would be slow to ascend if Mr. Andre was not always lousy before and during each perform- ance striving for perfection in every production, The applause at Curtain Call is a show of thanks for our Director. We entered the box office as small bewildered ingenues, full of eager admiration for the stars who were the upper- classmen. Our cast of aspirants was large and for our leading man we chose foe Brush, who with an able supporting cast, gave an excellent performance in our production of The Fresh- man Return Partyf' He repeated his success the following year as our stellar performer in The Baby Party, After tryouts, Dave Koppes made his appearance as the lead in our Iunior season in A Day in th'e Old South, the theme of our interpretation of what a lunior Prom should be. Through the years, we had many actors and actresses who scored hits in performances depicting sports, music, govern- ment and scholastic achievement. The current season has found us established performers in the theater, The entire student- body voted Phil Weinseimer their favorite actor and as such he assumed the duties of Student Council President, while our own spotlight fell on Frank Woznak who starred in this year's classic, The Palace of the Snow Queen. ' The footlights are fading now and the entire cast is experi- encing deserved bows and curtain calls for, although this period of our drama is ending, we. must continue in our careers with new roles and new scenery. May the applause be loud and long. lex ,gf ,EE ll 51 ' K l 4 ffl X Zi , Z A Z - if ' 41 I 43-11- .1 ...- -,TQ Sandra lean Aldridge Assembly Comm. 2,4, Sec. 35 Freshmen Return Party Comm. 1' Ir. I CLASS or -IUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Standing behind the scenes, we watch the star performers and think that next year we'll be doing the same parts. We commend them for having done such a wonderful job in their big performance, and only hope that we will be able to equal it. And as we look back, much to our surprise we find that we are fully prepared to take our places on the stage as main characters in a big production. ln our first season, although we were very shy in our first entrance, we quickly overcame this and elected Gary Snable to plan our performances for us. Alex Sutherland took care of details and Marilyn Smith of advertisements and receipts. The next year, we entrusted our performances again to their care, and also received applause for a job well done. Even though we still were underclassmen, we were proud of ourselves for entering into school life with so much success. We then became understudies and had a little more responsibility toward the producing of more and better shows. Because of his previous well done jobs, we again elected Gary Snable'as our head producer and as his assistant, Bruce Sahler. Since we had so much more advertising and receipts, we elected Carol Personette to take charge of the former and Alex Sutherland to be entrusted with the care of the latter. Under their leadership we have put on many a pleasing production for the public and are extremely proud of our accomplishments. We now loolgforward eagerly to taking over the spotlight and the responsibility of being the star performers in the major production. 5H-0e ' 4. it g! ,Z JU IOR C ASS ROW ONE: Frances DiVanna, Sally Fox, Gail Ram- sey. FRESHMEN CLASS HISTORY When we first entered upon our roles as ingenues, we came shyly onto the stage and acted our parts through in utter bewilderment. But big brothers and sisters immediately came to our aid and offered us their assistance through the first few performances. With this guidance, we now have become an estab- lished part of each performance. Having successfully taken part in various school functions, we are extremely proud of ourselves for entering so skillfully into school scenes. We were guests at the Baby Party and had to put on a dress rehearsal as babies for the bit players. We watched them carefully and took help- ful hints and suggestions in order to make our future tries at producing a success. We placed Stuart Tuffnel as head man in our pro- ducing department, and Ed Vitale as his right hand man. Ieanette Calder was designated to handle our publicity and Nancy Parry to take care of our receipts. ln our first show under our new department heads, we put on an extremely prosperous performance and we are now eager to try our hand at more and harder productions. For the time being, though, we will have to be content in just playing small roles in upper class performances. As new doors of opportunity open to us we will be able to accept more responsibilities through the knowl- edge we have gained in this our first year before the footlights and we eagerly look forward to bigger and better parts in future shows. We in Bernards High have our own Little League to follow and, though it was not in the national spotlight, it still had its own surprises and excitements, losses and disappointments this year. Again this season, under the leadership of lvlr, lacobson, the team provided an excit- ing schedule, losing its share and winning its share ol games. Mike Ambrose captained the team this year by playing at short stop. He was assisted very ably by Danny Schafer, Warren Iackson, and Bobby Carter, who helped him catch, pitch, and hit toward a victory. The games were always exciting for those who came to Watch and though they did xlose a few, the morale of the team still continued to be very good because of school spirit showed by the students. All those Freshman, Sophomores and Iuniors who have never been out for track before, the fans cheered on their way toward victory, Many of those boys never won, but still continued to stick it out with the team. Running was not the only part of track, many boys threw the discus, javelin and shot- put, and jumped the broad and high jumps. Mr. Hegstrom and Captain Chris Goes were pulling for these boys who took part in the field events. Thislyear the season started early, under the guidance of Miss Pat Hallacre, with basketball getting under way in October. Practice teams, to get the girls in shape, were followed by class teams, with the Seniors winning these. From these teams, two color teams were picked, with three games being played to choose a victor. Around about the beginning ot April, soft- 4 ball gets under way, this year coached by Mrs. Norman. The teams are set up much the same as in ,basketball-and are followed shortly by archery. For all of these extra sports- one must not forget the daily routine in Miss Titus's gyrn classes, Expecially nostalgic would be lst period P.T. - with icicles accompanied by one bass drum and shivering vi'ctims. Because of its size this year the club was divided into seven chapters. Each chapter had charge of a dif- ferent service project as sending clothes to needy or sick children, wrapping gift boxes for servicemen overseas, or making favors for hospitals, The girls also sold candy at athletic games. Swimming at the YMCA, and an annual Christmas party were among the activities of Tri-Hi-Y. Other activities included the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet and a Weekend camping trip, With the HieY, the club sponsored the Commencement Dance and the Valentine Ball where the King and Queen of Hearts were chosen. The biggest project of the year, however, was a three day conference held in October and attended by nearly 200 Tri-Hi-Y delegates from the entire Central Atlantic Area. Throughout the year Hi-Y conducted many activities and offered a varied program to all its members. When it was time for the initiation of new members, they all had to do as they were asked by the other members of the club who offered many suggestions about how they must dress that day at school. Many members also attended several con- ferences and conventions during the year, in conjunction with the national YMCA. Regular meetings are held to plan the club's activities and in the spring, boys are chosen to represent BHS. at the Model Legislature at Trenton. This years program also included the annual Valentine Ball and the Commencement Dance presented with Tri-Hi-Y, which were both very successful.
